HOUSE OF THE HOLY: Talk about being the first lady of Los Angeles.

The gala opening of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is a cathedral church of the United States in the City of Los Angeles in California.  It is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles[1] and seat of its archbishop, Roger Cardinal Mahony.  on Bunker Hill literally lit up the downtown Los Angeles Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. The sprawling, multi-centered megacity is such that its downtown core is often considered just another district like Hollywood or  sky. Dual fund-raisers, the formal Celebration of Dedication sit-down dinner and the more funky ``La Luz'' after-party were staged on different levels of the cathedral's enormous outdoor patios.

The event brought out some serious Hollywood star power. Anjelica Huston, Rita Moreno, Edward James Olmos Edward James Olmos (born February 24, 1947) is an Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated American actor and director. Some of his most memorable roles were Lt. Martin Castillo in Miami Vice, Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver and Admiral William Adama in the  and Keith David took the stage to dramatize the centuries-old story of the significance of some of the world's greatest cathedrals (Notre Dame in Paris, the Vatican in Rome) projected on the alabaster walls of Our Lady of Angels. The accompanying music, ``A Journey to the Light,'' composed by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, was stirringly performed by the USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  Thornton Symphony, conducted by Yehuda Gilad.

More than 1,200 prominent L.A. residents, including Mayor James Hahn, former ambassador to Mexico John Gavin, Vin Scully, Peter O'Malley and Ed Roski, dined on Patina's vegetable terrine ter·rine

Most marveled at the 12-story cathedral, designed by Spanish architect Jose Rafael Moneo, complete with a cloister garden, waterfall and reflection pools, a cafe, even a gift shop and underground parking. Everyone admired the intricate 25-ton bronze doors designed and fabricated by Huston's husband, sculptor Robert Graham. But the big buzz was the crypt below, an enormous mausoleum with backlit stained glass that will hold approximately 5,000 tombs and many more cremains cre·mains
