Some stars thanked spouses. ``I want to thank my husband John Asher,'' said Hottest New Filmmaker Jenny McCarthy. ``He's the only director I've ever slept with.'' Hey, if you say so.

Well, she's NOT starring in her husband Matthew Vaughn's directorial debut, ``Layer Cake,'' from the producers of ``Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,'' and based on a book by crime novelist J.J. Connolly.

But Schiffer, in slimming black, was with Vaughn at the L.A. premiere, a low-key affair with pre-movie cocktails at the Egyptian Theatre. She even posed with another new mom, Courteney Cox Arquette, who was in white slacks and a striped top.

``Cake'' stars Daniel Craig (Ted Hughes to Gwyneth Paltrow's poet Plath in ``Sylvia''), Sienna Miller (best known as Jude Law's new squeeze), Michael Gambon and Colm Meaney. The film is a gritty thriller set in the United Kingdom drug world. If you liked ``Lock, Stock,'' you'll love ``Cake.''

Also attending: Michael Keaton, David Arquette, Ben Foster, Sarah Clarke with honey Xander Berkeley (they met on the first season of ``24''), Corbin Bernsen and former ``Sex and the City'' hottie Jason Lewis (Samantha's beau Smith Jerrod), who was late due to Malibu surfing.

What does ``Layer Cake'' mean? ``It's a metaphor for different levels of British society, whether it's the crime world or anything else,'' says Vaughn. ``The movie shows how drugs are everywhere. It doesn't matter who or where you are, you're only one person away from drugs, scoring drugs or being involved with criminals.''
