TINSELTOWN SPYWITNESS.

Byline: Elizabeth Snead and Jennifer Sklar

FEEL LIKE A 'NEW GUY'?: Sandwiched between opening weekends for the two biggest films of the summer, ``Spider-Man'' and ``Star Wars: Episode II,'' is a teen comedy that does not feature a pie, exchange students or Tara Reid. Go figure.

``The New Guy'' stars ``Road Trip'' alum DJ Qualls Donald Joseph Qualls (born June 10, 1978) from Nashville, Tennessee, is an actor, better known as DJ Qualls. Biography
Qualls was raised in Manchester, Tennessee, as one of five children. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer, at age 14.

``You can't call him 'Vanilla Ice,' '' Qualls pointed out. ``You have to call him by his real name, Rob (Robert Van Winkle). People had to tell me that three times.''

Staying on Vanilla's, um, Rob's good side may be a smart idea. No one wants a personal segment on his ``E! True Hollywood Story,'' that's for sure.

In true Josh Hartnett fashion, Qualls prefers his hometown of Nashville to living in fast-paced Los Angeles.

``It's just not me. I don't want to get my identity wrapped up in this business, and this town is this business.'' One more thing: ``I want my kids to have Southern accents.''

But there's no Baja Fresh in Tennessee, DJ! At least it does not snow there six months out the year, like Hartnett's home, St. Paul.

Dushku said she loved playing the popular girl because it was such a departure from her real-life high-school experiences in Boston.

``I got ripped,'' she admitted, saying her movie roles earned her constant ridicule. ``Everyone called me the stupid movie stah,'' she said, in a dead-on Boston accent. ``So I got this thick skin and tough girl thing going. Now it's four years out of high school and I am over the shell shock, so I feel a lot more chill.'' It only took her four years?

DRESSED DOWN: Poor Gwyneth Paltrow just can't get a break. Her much-maligned goth gown worn at the Oscars is becoming the stuff of fashion legend. And now its being used as a ``no-no'' for hip L.A. party dress code. A recent party invite for an upcoming evening of cocktails, music and beauties, with music by DJ Jolyon at Le Dome on Sunset Boulevard, includes this suggestion for attire: ``Anything but Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar dress.''
