A STAR IS BORN: Jennifer Hudson picked up another accolade before she joined Beyonce Knowles, Anika Noni Rose, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy

at the premiere of ``Dreamgirls'' at the Wilshire Theatre on Monday night.

Hudson, who has already been honored by the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics, was among the young actors at Hollywood Life Magazine's Breakthrough of the Year Awards on Sunday.

``Sometimes I think it took 25 years to make ``Dreamgirls'' because we were waiting for Jennifer Hudson to show up,'' director Bill Condon said before he presented the breakthrough trophy to the 25-year-old newcomer.

The former ``American Idol'' contestant, who received a standing ovation after her on-screen rendition of ``And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going'' at the premiere, was humbled. ``I've got to say `Thank you, God' for letting me be part of this great ensemble cast,'' Hudson said.

How did Condon know she had what it takes?

``It's very difficult to keep Jamie Foxx quiet when you're working with him,'' he said. ``But when Jennifer sang he looked up and his eyes were streaming with tears.''

Teri Hatcher and Shirley MacLaine were among the first guests to admire the ``Dreamgirls'' costumes on display in the lobby of the Wilshire Theatre. They were joined by the Supremes' Mary Wilson, as well as David Geffen, Andie MacDowell, Barry Bonds, Katherine Heigl, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Gayheart, Tracey Edmonds, Snoop Dogg and more than 1,000 others. Beyonce sat demurely in Row L and quietly smiled as the audience applauded each song during the screening.

``This picture reminds all of us why we're in show business,'' said Paramount CEO Brad Grey.

CHARLOTTE, FERN AND FRIENDS: Julia Roberts posed with Dakota Fanning and a 6-week-old Yorkshire pig tethered on a red leash at the premiere of ``Charlotte's Web'' on Sunday. ``I was a 4-H'er, love animals and am all for veterinary science,'' Roberts, the voice of Charlotte, told two teenage fans waving a 4-H banner in the ArcLight lobby.

But Roberts didn't join Fanning, Dominic Scott Kay (the voice of Wilbur), Steve Buscemi, Cedric the Entertainer, Kathy Bates, Beau Bridges, Reba McEntire and others from the film at the after party. She missed seeing the Hollywood Palladium decorated as the Somerset County Fairgrounds and lost an opportunity to get up close and personal with piglets and other animals at the Zuckerman Farm Petting Zoo.

Lauren Holly and Christine Taylor let their kids climb a gigantic spider's web and milk cardboard cows while Bridget Fonda, Jamie Lynn Spears and Martin Landau noticed billboard-size signs reading ``Fleece Navidad,'' ``Web Master'' and ``Honk If You Love Pigs.'' Others discussed the deeper meaning of the film, based on the iconic book written by E.B. White in 1952.

``This simple children's story has got a lot of darkness and subtext in it,'' insisted Dave Stewart, who co-wrote ``Ordinary Miracle,'' the theme song sung by Sarah McLachlan. ``It will influence and change everyone who sees it.''

``Look at me -- don't I look changed?'' joked Buscemi, who's got just the mouth for Templeton the Rat.

``It taught me about the meaning of life, living to the fullest, and the importance of being a good friend,'' said Fanning, who was wearing a pair of Marc Jacobs heels and has been photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for January's Vanity Fair.

Wonder what Wilbur would say about that.
