TINSELTOWN SPYWITNESS.

A GOOD PADDLING: Some of the 2,000 guests in the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  on Thursday night were using their Armani Code auction bid paddles as fans. Until Sharon Stone stridently strolled down the fashion runway to raise funds for local organizations supporting HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome  research, care, prevention and education.

``Are you fanning or making a bid?'' Stone asked a member of a crowd that included Brooke Shields Brooke Christa Camille Shields[1] (born May 31, 1965) is an American actress and supermodel. Biography

I'm wearing a vintage Gucci and it may be off my back by the end of the evening.''

The aggressive AIDS activist/auctioneer got up close and personal to prompt bids at Macy's Passport 2006 charity auction and fashion gala. Stone sang ``Happy Birthday to You'' a la Marilyn Monroe to encourage one bidder and jumped in the lap of another. Then she, Vardalos and 27 others each ``bid'' $2,000 to enable Project Angel Food to take 1,450 AIDS-affected kids and their families to Disneyland.

Stone's effective auctioneering may have prompted an audacious remark from Shields when she introduced Taylor, who was brought on stage in a wheelchair to a standing ovation. ``I hope to Taylor got serious before Combs kicked off a pyrotechnics-filled fashion show that included Villaraigosa and Smits as runway models.

``We're in danger of being complacent about HIV/AIDS,'' Taylor said. ``I want you to keep talking about this disease, especially to young people. By talking to Noun 1. talking to - a lengthy rebuke; "a good lecture was my father's idea of discipline"; "the teacher gave him a talking to"

 and other ``experienced'' celebrity teens.

``The gurlz in the book are excellent young role models that I want my nieces to emulate,'' said Schlip as she spoke to guests that included Andrea Bowen, Q'Orianka Kilcher, Joy Lauren, Masiela Lusha, Lauren Storm and an aging (she's 32 now) Molly Sims. ``Their stories provide solutions for teen gurlz struggling with self-confidence, self-esteem, body image and other issues.''

Can a book, which includes tips on everything from makeup and style to sexuality and spiritual awareness, really help?

``Becoming a woman is always awkward, and we all need help dealing with peer pressure and other problems,'' said Duff, who just turned 19. ``This cool self-help book can really make someone our age look and feel better.''

``Younger girls are constantly being put in adult situations, and the book provides them with peers to turn to for advice when they hit their lowest low,'' added Kibble. ``They can reach out to young women like us who are willing to talk about our own insecurities.''

And what does a teen that hasn't yet read ``glamour gurlz'' suggest?

``You've got to learn to love and appreciate yourself, even if you have curves or whatever,'' said Q'Orianka Kilcher, who portrayed Pocahontas in ``The New World'' and is now 16. ``Be happy that you're unique.''

And maybe don't take in too much oxygen or drink too many Glamazons.

PIECE O' CAKE: The Chateau Marmont on Sunset Boulevard was transformed into a California version of the Chateau de Versailles after a special screening of ``Marie Antoinette'' Monday night.

Contemporary Hollywood royalty -- including everyone from Pedro Almodovar, Mischa Barton, Drew Barrymore, Maria Bello, Orlando Bloom, Penelope Cruz and Will Ferrell to Milla Jovovich, Donovan Leitch, Courtney Love and Rose McGowan -- delicately held glasses of champagne and wandered amid crystal chandeliers, candelabras, King Louis XIV chairs, gilded gild 1

mirrors, elaborate flower arrangements and heat lamps.

They didn't all bear regal manners.

``It feels good!'' Leitch told Jason Schwartzman, who plays Louis XVI in the film, as he tapped the actor's royal bottom on the purple carpet before the premiere at the ArcLight. ``Lots of Pilates, I'll bet.''

Schwartzman, Kirsten Dunst, Steve Coogan and other actors shot the lavish production directed by Sofia Coppola in the real Versailles. They weren't completely convinced that the Marmont could rival its French counterpart.

``The chateau's a great hotel, but to be truly royal, the beds have to be much shorter,'' said Schwartzman. ``People used to sleep sitting up when I was king.''

``I don't mean to insult the chateau, but they have to reupholster everything because it's so drab compared to colorful Versailles,'' added Dunst, who plays the teenage queen. ``And they must start serving macaroons to every arriving guest.''

Not everyone was critical.

``It's impossible to duplicate the pomp POMP

, circumstance and regal air of Versailles in L.A.,'' claimed Coogan. ``But the Chateau Marmont is more fun.''

``Trust me, the Chateau Marmont doesn't want to be Versailles,'' said a pregnant Coppola, wearing a dress and shoes by Chanel, one of the evening's sponsors. ``But it's a great motif for a party.''

Indeed, let them eat fake.
