It marked the first time a Los Angeles mayor has ever appeared at the gay and lesbian film fest. Villaraigosa got a standing ovation from the crowd at downtown's Orpheum Theatre and said he wanted to participate to honor ``a community that has given so much to our city and our country. The honor is mine, not yours.''

THE LATEST WEARS: How do Hollywood's hot stars look cool this summer?

Stars such as Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Kirsten Dunst and Kelly Ripa went shopping for the latest summer chillin' trends: turquoise and coral earrings; wood bracelets; long, flowing, gauze gauze (gawz) a light, open-meshed fabric of muslin or similar material.

Lohan spend the July 4th holiday in L.A., relaxing before starting to shoot her new film, ``Fashionista.'' And Katie Holmes has been wearing her new Habitual Glory Nocturnal jeans when she rides Tom Cruise's bike around town.

Bet Holmes won't be seen wearing the hot new ``Free Katie'' T-shirt sold on freekatie.com, a site that proudly purports to be ``dedicated to rescuing sweet Katie Holmes from the clutches of the mad Scientologist Tom Cruise.''

The block-lettered ``Free Katie'' is the fastest seller ($11.99 to $19.99) in Hollywood, followed by ``Let Katie Go,'' ``Pseudo Religion,'' ``Toxic Tom,'' ``Team Prozac,'' ``A Few Good Meds,'' ``You Can't Handle the Truth'' and ``Stop Sofa Abuse'' styles. Oh, and they also sell ``Free Katie'' mugs, bumper stickers, bikinis and baseball caps.

Since the Repository's dusty records, like those of all sperm banks, were confidential, Plotz used the Internet to attract and track down donors, recipients and offspring.

Maybe that's why the evening's parlor game was trying to figure out which three guests were actually two genius-factory donors and one genius-factory spawn. Sorry, our lips are sealed. You'll just have to read the darn book.
