TINSELTOWN SPYWITNESS.

Byline: Elizabeth Snead

MAKING THE EMMY PARTY SCENE: Hollywood was all dressed up with plenty of places to go Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. . TV's winners (and lots of losers) piled into limos after the Emmy awards to hit the chic after-parties held in hotels and restaurants around town.

Most winners try to hit as many parties as they can before heading home happy with their golden statuettes. The unlucky losers usually try to find a safe place, usually their network's party, to lick their wounded egos and get at least some wear out of those designer gowns and fancy tuxes.

After the Governors Ball, which everyone hits first because it is at the Shrine, where the ceremony takes place, HBO's party held in a tented tent·ed

``The Sopranos' '' Emmy winners James Gandolfini and Edie Falco arrived together. She was wearing an elegant ivory Vera Wang gown. A subdued Larry David sat at his table inside with comedian-pal David Steinberg and some of the ``Curb Your Enthusiasm'' cast, including Cheryl Hines wearing a very hot Valentino black lace frock.

``Six Feet Under'' creator Alan Ball and stars Lauren Ambrose, Frances Conroy, Freddy Rodriguez and Peter Krause made the rounds of the huge room. In the ``Sex and the City'' corner, Kristin Davis, wearing a strapless strap·less

Sarah Jessica Parker, wearing a cotton-candy pink Chanel gown and earrings from stylist L'wren Scott's new line for Vera Wang, said being a new mom didn't dent her fashion spirits. ``A pretty dress is a pretty dress is a pretty dress, and I'm always thrilled to wear one,'' Parker told a style scribe.

Kim Cattrall looked well-wrapped in her shimmery shim·mer

Did she have to diet to wear the revealing dress? ``Honey, I diet every day,'' she said, sounding just like her ``Sex'' alter ego A doctrine used by the courts to ignore the corporate status of a group of stockholders, officers, and directors of a corporation in reference to their limited liability so that they may be held personally liable for their actions when they have acted fraudulently or unjustly or when , Samantha.

Cynthia Nixon looked amazing in an orange Bradley Bayou strapless number, which was one of the many celebrity Emmy outfits being auctioned off at www.clothesoffourback.com to raise money for charity. Up for grabs: the Carolina Herrera gowns worn by Courteney Cox and Stockard Channing; Patricia Heaton's and Jennifer Garner's Ralph Lauren numbers; Jessica Lange's Carmen Carmen

Everyone hung out on the hotel's outdoor pool patio to listen to '80s retro all-girl band the Bangles. A few folks did try to ``Walk Like an Egyptian.''

Far fewer famous folks made it to TV Guide's Emmy bash at the Lot Studios in West Hollywood. A sit-down viewing dinner was followed by a promised ``star-studded'' after-bash, but most guests just kept anxiously watching the monitors showing the red carpet arrivals. The big moment was when the Foo Fighters got on stage at 10:30 p.m. Word to the party-wise: A musical act at an Emmy party is a bad idea. Who wants to go to party where it's impossible to hear heartfelt congratulations and/or commiserations over blaring rock music?

Speaking of commiseration, Fox's pity party at Morton's included crestfallen crest·fall·en

Emmy nominees Kiefer Sutherland, Bernie Mac and Michael Chiklis.

``American Idol'' resident meanie Simon Cowell summed up the Fox party mood. ``We didn't win, so I lost complete interest,'' the Brit sniped.

Now, now. Try to act like a good loser.
