TINSELTOWN SPYWITNESS.

Byline: Elizabeth Snead and Jenny Peters

OSCAR'S ROCK STARS: The Golden Globes are over, but just ahead is Oscar's big celebration - a 75th diamond anniversary.

Let the diamond hunt begin.

What will you be seeing on the red carpet March 23? Just what you saw at the Golden Globes: colored diamonds, big diamond rings, dangling diamond earrings and lots of big bracelets. Harry Winston Harry Winston (March 1, 1896 – December 8, 1978) was an American jeweller. He donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958 after owning it for a decade.  placed gems on stars such as Queen Latifah

A big diamond do was thrown last week by InStyle magazine and the Diamond Information Center; a fashion show/luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel The Beverly Hills Hotel is a hotel in Beverly Hills, CA, at 9641 Sunset Boulevard. It was opened on May 12, 1912 and started by Margaret J. Anderson and her son, Stanley S. In addition to the awards shows, diamonds play a big role in Paramount's new romantic comedy, ``How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,'' starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey (opens Feb. 7). At a recent screening on the studio lot, Hudson sat in the all-girl audience, sipping a glass of bubbly. But she didn't stick around for the after-party, a blowout beauty bash with lots more bubbles, hors d'oeuvres, manicures, blow-drys, eyebrow shaping, makeup and, of course, a display of some of the $15 million worth of fabulous Winston gems.

In the film, Hudson sports the Isadora necklace; in reality it's a Harry Winston yellow diamond pendant on a diamond wreath (total value just over $5 million) and five-carat yellow diamond earrings (a mere $125,000).

According to Winston's Katie Sweet, precious gem preference runs in the family. Seems the yellow diamond pendant was also borrowed and worn by Hudson's mom, Goldie Hawn, a few years back.

WHO WANTS AN AWARD? A riotous time was had by all at the eighth annual Broadcast Film Critics Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 17 as emcee Jason Alexander skewered both attending stars and those not there to defend themselves (Madonna for one). He kept the glittering crowd laughing but was finally overshadowed late in the evening by an incredible off-the-cuff comedy routine performed by best-actor winner Jack Nicholson and loser Robin Williams. There was actually a tie for best actor between ``Gangs of New York'' star Daniel Day-Lewis and Nicholson, but since the BFCA BFCA Broadcast Film Critics Association  only nominates three performances in any acting category, that meant there were two winners and just one loser. Once Day-Lewis gave his shy, slightly embarrassed acceptance speech, Nicholson took the stage, dark shades and all, to accept his award for ``About Schmidt,'' but instead called for Williams to join them on stage, trading barbs barbs

(``My God, this means I'm the only loser here tonight!'' Williams moaned) while Day-Lewis looked on with a completely amused expression. Catherine Zeta-Jones won best supporting actress for her work in ``Chicago.'' The very pregnant beauty, clad in black palazzo pants and a long glittery black duster, crowed, ``I've never won anything before!'' and pointed at proud hubby Michael Douglas and said, ``Honey, move those Oscars - this is going right up there!'' This was a casual event. While the men universally wore dark suits and ties, the women ran the gamut, from Diane Lane's simple tank-top, A-line black dress to Renee Zellweger's retro little gray suit.

Nicole Kidman didn't win for best actress (that went to an absent Julianne Moore), but she took home the prize for showing the most skin in a tiny midriff-baring and plunging black lace camisole camisole /cam·i·sole/ (kam´i-sol) [Fr.] straitjacket; a jacketlike device for restraining the limbs, particularly the arms, of a violently disturbed patient.  and matching micro-mini.
