TINSELTOWN SPYWITNESS.

IT'S A FACT: Will Ferrell John William "Will" Ferrell (born July 16, 1967[1]) is an Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated American comedian, impressionist, writer and actor who first established himself as a cast member of Saturday Night Live, , Emma Thompson Emma Thompson (born 15 April 1959) is an Emmy-, BAFTA- and Academy Award-winning English actress, comedian, and screenwriter. She is also a patron of the Refugee Council. Biography

There were blown-up passages from Zach Helm's existential but comprehensible script, the soundtrack played in the restrooms, and ``flours'' were everywhere.

Everyone at the party asked the same question: ``What would you do if your toothbrush started talking to Noun 1. talking to - a lengthy rebuke; "a good lecture was my father's idea of discipline"; "the teacher gave him a talking to"

``Americans acknowledge the voice and go to a shrink or take drugs,'' said Thompson, as she shifted her revealing Roberto Cavalli gown. ``But we British just say `Ah, shut up, will ya?' or `It's best if we don't talk about these things.'''

``We all hear voices, but unfortunately we usually don't listen to them,'' said Hoffman, who was interrupted by the voice of director Marc Forster, who called from China at 11 p.m. ``Sometimes if we'd listen, we'd live a fuller life.''

Helm took a practical approach. ``If anyone can't cope with the voices they hear after seeing the film, I'll publish my phone number and talk them through it.''

But Ferrell had the most sensible response.

``Don't brush your teeth,'' he advised as he left the party with pregnant wife Viveca Paulin.

DOUBLE PREMIERE: Westwood was still a little stranger than fiction on Sunday night when two films opening today premiered almost simultaneously. ``Babel'' at the Mann Village was pitted against ``Harsh Times'' (review on page 9) at the Crest.

Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Michael Pena in ``Babel'' definitely attracted the largest crowds. Pitt, who'd flown in from India, was surrounded by six security guards as he casually signed autographs on Broxton Avenue. ``Do not venture where you're not protected,'' one guard advised as Pitt waved to UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

Pitt deftly deflected questions about his wife, Angelina Jolie, fatherhood and ex-wife Jennifer Aniston. Anyway, why bother to talk? `` `Babel' is about our inability to communicate and the misperceptions it causes,'' he said.

Case closed.

Pitt and Blanchett skipped the after-party at the Hammer Museum, where the decor and food replicated scenes shot in Morocco, Japan and Mexico. But Pena, Don Cheadle, Salma Hayek, Josh Lucas and Zach Braff were there. And everyone tried to speak to Rinko Kikuchi, who plays the exceptional deaf teen rebel in ``Babel Babel (bā`bəl) [Heb.,=confused], in the Bible, place where Noah's descendants (who spoke one language) tried to build a tower reaching up to heaven to make a name for themselves. .'' ``I'm very nervous about being here and amazed at all of the compliments I'm getting,'' Kikuchi said through a translator as she surveyed the sushi bar.

Christian Bale, Eva Longoria and Freddy Rodriquez were all at the ``Harsh Times'' premiere on the other side of Wilshire. Bale skipped the London premiere of ``The Prestige'' to be there, Longoria fielded questions about ``Desperate Housewives,'' and Rodriguez accepted kudos for his Dodgers-loving role in ``Bobby.'' But none of them made it to the after-party at the Napa Valley Grille.
