GOLDEN MOMENTS: Gold was the standard on Tuesday night at Les Deux, as AOL pulled out all the stops to launch its new trivia game, Gold Rush.

Creator Mark Burnett (the man who brought us reality-show hits ``Survivor,'' ``The Apprentice'' and ``Rock Star'') didn't sport any bling as he greeted a gaggle of famous faces, many who found trivia questions about themselves on the gold-printed black cocktail napkins floating about the place.

There was ``That '70s Show'' star Wilmer Valderrama in one corner of the crowded outdoor garden of the newly renovated restaurant-turned-nightclub (it used to be Les Deux Cafe), and Tori Spelling with new hubby Dean McDermott in another. Sexy Sofia Milos of ``CSI: Miami'' giggled with Gold Rush online host Mark Steines (he of ``ET'' fame); looking at him, it comes to mind that Burnett hired a clone of himself to host the online/offline $2 million gold giveaway game that launched on Wednesday.

Kathy Griffin grabbed up some golden bling (earrings, bracelets, cigarette cases) offered by girls clad in skintight bodysuits, by answering easy trivia; she got excited over the golden Converse sneakers given to every partygoer, too. Everyone snacked on foie gras, caviar, truffle-laden quiches and other expensive fare, paired with top-shelf liquors; only the best for the Gold Rush!

Kristin Cavallari made the scene, as did Clifton Collins Jr., Josh Henderson, Johnathon Schaech and ``Desperate Housewives'' star Felicity Huffman, who came late (after the kids were in bed?) and caused a traffic jam of photographers and flashing lights as she moved through the party.

``What can I do?'' she laughed in the midst of the crush. ``They just won't leave me alone!''

And SHE wasn't even giving away any gold.

WANT IT? GOT IT!: What do women want for fall? Cutting-edge fashion, of course! That's what brought out chic types from Beverly Hills to Brentwood on Wednesday night, as Saks Fifth Avenue launched its ``Want It!'' must-have style campaign and Footcandy Brentwood opened its doors on San Vicente Boulevard.

Saks was filled with the ladies-who-lunch types, the ultra rich for whom fur-trimmed coats (one of the ``Want It!'' list of must-haves) retailing for $10,000 are an everyday purchase, and their male counterparts, whose ``Want It!'' list includes velvet or ruffled white shirts, grommetted sport boots, and merino wool T-shirts. Candy Spelling shopped the store's newly renovated fine jewelry department, while Nancy Davis tried on Stuart Weitzman shoes in that revamped section.

Farther west, Footcandy celebrated its latest shop, seemingly channeling the inner Carrie Bradshaw in all of us. Designed to show off women's shoes like the works of art they often are, the shop stocks top designers including Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo.

Brentwood local and MSNBC news anchor Willow Bay checked out the stock of footwear and handbags and gasped, ``I live in the neighborhood, and this exactly the kind of store we need!''

Katherine Bailess of ``One Tree Hill'' agreed. But as she and most other women know, there are never too many places to shop when fall fashion fever hits.

DOGGONE FUN: Smashbox Studios was more like a dog -- and cat -- park than a studio Thursday night as pet-loving stars including Amy Smart, Jillian Barberie, Annabeth Gish, Carl Lewis, Eric Roberts, Robert Culp and Wolfgang Petersen showed up with their significant -- if hairy -- others for the Best Friends Animal Society's annual fundraiser, ``The Lint Roller Party.''

James L. Brooks was there with daughter Chloe and their shar pei-shepherd mix, Buddy. Others who were there included Charlize Theron, James Cromwell, Elisabeth Shue, Tori Spelling, Jessica Alba, Peter Falk and Bill Mahr.

``He's a rescue dog,'' explained Brooks, who said he's ``busy doing a `Simpsons' movie.'' Culp, who was dog-less, called the Society ``a great rescue outfit. I support them in all their efforts -- and don't forget, spay your pets!''

Smart, star of ``Crank,'' was happily mingling ``with my dog, Oscar, and my boyfriend, Brandon.''

``He had to dress up for the occasion,'' she said. ``This night is a big deal for dogs.''

No kidding. With Todd Newton and Barberie hosting from the stage, auctions of everything from dog beds and doggie day-care packages to crates of wine -- from Bark Vineyards, naturally -- and a guitar donated by Sting raised more than $225,000 for the event. All proceeds from the evening will benefit homeless pets in Los Angeles.

And by the time musical guests Young Dubliners began playing, many of the four-legged guests looked a lot livelier than the other attendees. The only disappointment of the whole evening? Great gift bags, but no doggie bags!
