TINSELTOWN SPYWITNESS.

Byline: Elizabeth Snead and Jenny Peters

PURE PARTY ANIMALS: Ashlee Simpson turned 21 on stage last weekend at PURE, the hot nightclub in Caesar's Palace Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. .

The birthday girl gave two packed performances on Oct. 2. Papa Joe recounted Ash's birth at the early show. Seems he and Ashlee's mom, Tina, weren't expecting her to come that night. But after slight contractions, they saw a doctor in the middle of the night and Ash popped out 24 minutes later. Man, that girl just doesn't miss a cue.

Tina and big sister Jessica cheered Ash, whose hair extensions are longer than her sibling's, during the show. The crowd sang ``Happy Birthday'' and one exuberant fan took his shirt off and swung it over his head, screaming her name.

Afterward Ashlee went back to her Caesar's suite, where Jess gave her a Rolex watch. The family had a private dinner with friends at the Mesa Grill. No sign of Nick Lachey <noinclude></noinclude>

After dinner, Ashlee got ready for her midnight show. Before singing her new song ``Love,'' she yelled, ``It's so exciting I can finally drink!'' Then she got five friends on stage to dance. She tried to get her sis to climb up and ``shake your booty'' but Jessica just laughed. The show ended at 12:30 a.m. and Ash and Wilmer hit the blackjack blackjack, one of the world's most widely played gambling card games; also known as twenty-one or vingt-et-un. At 2 a.m., the Caesar's Palace marquee lit up the strip with ``Happy Birthday, Ashlee Simpson.''

ALL SMILES: A smiling Barry Diller Barry Diller (born February 2, 1942 in San Francisco, California) is an American media executive responsible for the creation of Fox Broadcasting Company. Biography  actually trumped Donald Trump by topping the Donald's generous $50,000 donation to the fourth annual Operation Smile gala.

Diller gave a cool 60 grand to aid the organization, which helps children around the world born with cleft palates and facial disfigurations. Trump was a no-show, reportedly home with his pregnant wife, Melania. But Trump sent his gift via a glam Roma Downey (``Touched by an Angel'').

Diller sat at one of the big money tables in the Regent Beverly Wilshire, along with ``Curb Your Enthusiasm'' star Larry David, ``Survivor'' producer Mark Burnett, Della Reese and power pair Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, who wore a distressed brown leather jacket and silk skirt.

Beatty was uncharacteristically mum when asked about his rumored run for California's governor seat. Even Arizona Sen. John McCain avoided any presidential campaign talk when honoring his wife, Cindy, with Smile's Wallis Annenberg Public Service Award.
