and Tom Ford. Both had mega-celeb body counts, including Steve Martin, Jodie Foster, Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, and that still piping-hot couple, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

But this year's bash honoring photographers Mario Testino and the late Herb Ritts, was slightly less stellar. Vogue editor Anna Wintour, wearing trademark black sunglasses, came out Sunday night. Lauren Bacall showed up. So did sculptor Robert Graham, who made the bronze torso that adorns the shopping street. His wife, Anjelica Huston, was on hand, too. So were Patrick Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi. And, look! There's Fran Drescher.

There was a flicker of excitement when Cameron Diaz arrived, showing no effects of her recently reported bloody fall and hospital visit. No sign of Justin Timberlake, but Cam did flash an impressive rock on the third finger of her left hand.

Swayze got teary talking about pal Ritts as the man's memorable photos flashed on giant video screens. Wintour recalled a prefame Testino taking her 2-year-old son's passport photo while Diaz revealed the photographer's true genius.

``He has the ability to discover parts of you that you never knew you had,'' she said. ``One of the parts he showed me was my butt crack, which ended up on a magazine cover. So I have to credit Mario with discovering my butt.''

 Image Awards?

The ``Girlfriends'' star failed to pick up an award Saturday for outstanding actress in a comedy series for the fourth year in a row. But she's not giving up. In fact, she's not even discouraged.

``Winning is not the best part,'' said a philosophical Ross as she eyed giant Sprint chocolate cell phones, complete with working video screens, at an preawards party last Friday at Windows, atop the SBC (1) (SBC Communications Inc., San Antonio, TX, www.sbc.com) A large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002.  tower in downtown L.A. ``Being nominated is.''

The edible cells were centerpieces on a table of fine chocolate nibbles created by Sprint for the lounge, where guests relaxed on sofas designed to look like open flip-phones. Just call it call-waiting furniture!

NAACP chairman Julian Bond urged guests to watch his ``Ray'' appearance. ``Watch the last 90 seconds of 'Ray' and you'll see me making a presentation,'' said Bond, noting that Charles was inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame before his death last year.

``Ray'' collected four top Image honors, including best picture and best actor, at Saturday's awards held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is one of the halls in the Los Angeles Music Center (which is one of the three largest performing arts centers in the United States). The Music Center's other halls include the Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson Theatre, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. . The awards will be broadcast at 8 tonight on Fox.

Ross did miss out on that big hug ``Ray'' star Jamie Foxx gave to Mo'Nique Imes-Jackson, who took home the outstanding actress award. Next year, Tracee!
