TIME WARNER TELECOM ENHANCES METRO ETHERNET LAN SERVICES.
First Citizens Bank, based in Raleigh, N.C., is one of Time Warner Telecom's first customers to use the Multi-point Extended Native LAN service. First Citizens is using the new product enhancement to connect a main bank location in Charlotte and a back-office location in Columbia, S.C., with its headquarters in Raleigh. The service transmits financial and other data transactions seamlessly among the three locations over 10 and 20 Mbps Ethernet ports, which are scalable to 100 Mbps.
"In the event of a major problem with our network, ENLAN technology will eliminate manual intervention and decrease our recovery time in providing infrastructure services to support business continuity," said Jennifer Varron, vice president and manager of network operations for First Citizens Bank.
"Multi-point Extended Native LAN compliments our current metro Ethernet solution portfolio by delivering the benefits of metro Ethernet service between multiple markets and locations across the country," said Graham Taylor, senior vice president-Marketing for Time Warner Telecom. "Financial institutions, healthcare facilities, government entities and manufacturing facilities with locations in various cities across the country will find the multi-point enhancement attractive and efficient in meeting their specific needs."
Multi-point Extended Native LAN is a managed, fully-meshed, end-to-end customer solution delivered over Time Warner Telecom's robust IP fiber backbone network. The service is a Layer 2 offered over Time Warner Telecom's Layer 3 IP network to drive economies of scale for customers, depending upon their individual requirements. It is available in scalable bandwidths from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps port speeds.
"More than 775 enterprise customers, in our 44 U.S. markets, have purchased our Native LAN services to experience up to 100 times faster connection speeds at lower prices than any other traditional network can offer," Taylor said. "Customers are demanding greater value and improved efficiencies in their networks -- and that's exactly what our Native LAN solutions portfolio delivers. Simple customer management of proven Ethernet technology, easy network scalability, and affordable Internet and data connections, are some of the benefits that appeal to a wide array of business customers today."
Time Warner Telecom's Ethernet portfolio, considered one of the most comprehensive in the industry, includes dedicated Ethernet Internet access; a local customer-managed service for point-to-point and point-to-multi-point LAN applications; a local managed switched service to replace Frame Relay backbone infrastructure for any-to-any LAN applications; a local SONET-based premium service for mission critical data transmission needs; and point-to-point and multi-point extended metro Ethernet services.
Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN metro Ethernet solutions are available to all businesses, depending upon their size and needs, at speeds from 10 Mbps to 1 Gbps, with plans to expand up to 10 Gbps. Services are generally available at any on-net building with various connectivity options. Pricing is Ethernet port-based with no incremental bandwidth or mileage charges.
"What is critically important is that our Native LAN is a platform to deliver future Voice over IP solutions like voice trunking services to IP PBX's, and voice VPNs," Taylor said. "Metro Ethernet solves customer needs for high-speed transmission and capacity, business continuity, and ease of use."
