TIME RUNNING OUT TO APPLY FOR ENERGY ASSISTANCE GRANTS

TIME RUNNING OUT TO APPLY FOR ENERGY ASSISTANCE GRANTS
PHILADELPHIA, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers who need help paying their fuel or utility bills for heating, electric or water service have only a few weeks left to apply for critical energy assistance grants.
The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is urging customers who need help but who have not yet applied for grants from the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to do so immediately. Applications for LIHEAP grants must be received at 1326 Buttonwood St., Philadelphia, Pa., 19123, by April 3, 1992.
LIHEAP grants average approximately $200, and can be applied to gas, oil, electric, kerosene, wood, propane or water bills. To be eligible to receive a grant, a household does not have to have an overdue bill. No lien is placed on a property receiving an energy assistance grant.
Customers who want an application mailed to them or who need assistance filling out the application form may call the LIHEAP hotline at 215-560-2970, or PGW at 215-684-6100, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, all gas and electric neighborhood offices have applications available.
To apply, customers must provide proof of social security numbers and income for all household members. Also, a current fuel or utility bill must accompany the application.
Customers who have a past-due utility bill, or who are nearly out of oil, may also be eligible for a Crisis grant, in addition to LIHEAP. Both Crisis and LIHEAP will stop accepting applications for energy assistance grants after April 3, 1992.
