TIE COMPLETES AGREEMENT WITH PTMS TO ACQUIRE NON-NORTHERN TELECOM KEY/HYBRID PHONE SYSTEM CUSTOMER SITES

 SAN RAMON, Calif., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- TIE/communications, Inc. (AMEX: TIE) and PacTel Meridian Systems (PTMS) have completed an agreement, announced in August, under which TIE has acquired substantially all of the non-Northern Telecom key/hybrid telephone equipment customer base of PTMS.
 TIE currently operates in California, serving more than 4,000 business organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Fresno, Sacramento, Orange County and Los Angeles. The new combination brings the number of organizations in TIE's Western Region active customer base to over 18,000.
 TIE supplies and services over 100,000 business customers in North America with technologically advanced telecommunications and information distribution systems, services and software.
 The company operates 68 TIE offices in the United States and Canada. TIE has an installed base of 11 million telephones, making it one of the largest communications organizations in North America.
 TIE is a member of The Marmon Group of companies, an international association of more than 60 autonomous service and manufacturing companies with annual sales in excess of $4 billion.
 PacTel Meridian Systems is a partnership between Northern Telecom and Pacific Telesis. Nothern Telecom, a leading global telecommunications researcher and manufacturer, is the majority owner of PTMS.
