This family play is considered a model for teaching tolerance and understanding. The playwright embraces the optimism and tenacity of youth by documenting Anne's journey into history.

``Everyone knows this play is such a great theatrical piece because it is the story of a Jewish family hiding in an attic from the Nazis,'' Boydston said. ``It is a slice-of-life story about a girl coming of age, first love and the age-old conflict between parents and their children.

``It also explores interpersonal relationships between strangers who are forced to live in small quarters. The close proximity of other human beings for an extended period of time leads to an entertaining look at the humor, conflict, despair and hope that results. It is a microcosm of humanity where both good and evil are shown.''
