At the same time, using TIBCO's widely adopted publish and subscribe (1) To provide a source of information that users select from and then receive on a regular basis or when certain events occur. The service can be public or private, free or paid, and information can be provided via e-mail and the Web or by means of proprietary applications.  multicasting or "broadcasting" software, TIBCO.net hopes to enable Web sites to expand communities of users from small groups into worldwide networks with millions of users.

"Sun has been working with TIBCO, a market leader in enterprise application integration and real-time content, for more than a decade," said Scott McNealy Scott McNealy (born November 13, 1954 in Columbus, Indiana) was the Chairman of Sun Microsystems, the computer technology company he co-founded in 1982 along with Vinod Khosla, Bill Joy, and Andy Bechtolsheim. , chairman and CEO of Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. "TIBCO's reliable implementation of the publish and subscribe model provides another important building block for customers to integrate the Internet and e-commerce into their business."

"3Com customers place a great deal of importance on the integration of public Web-based information and private corporate information. They are also interested in mobile access to this information via their Palm Computing computing - computer  devices, and TIBCO.net brings this prospect closer to reality," said Eric Benhamou, chairman and chief executive officer, 3Com Corporation. "Together with TIBCO, we will explore ways to add real-time, personalized delivery of internal enterprise content to the news and information to be provided by 3Com's Palm.Net(TM) service."

TIBCO.net distinguishes itself from other service providers in three ways:

-- Adapters for corporate content -- content adapters ensure smooth

integration of disparate content and transaction systems. These

adapters include TIB/ActiveEnterprise components to integrate

business information from enterprise software applications such

as SAP R/3 or Oracle databases. This enables corporations to

extend their enterprise systems onto the Web to build value-added

extranet e-businesses.

-- Value-added e-business services -- software devices such as alert

engines, auction/quote exchange, time-series trackers, and other

real-time services are but a few of the value-added services A value-added service (VAS) is a telecommunications industry term for non-core services or, in short, all services beyond standard voice calls and fax transmissions.  of

TIBCO.net.

-- Decoupled output distribution -- mechanisms ensure that content

delivered by TIBCO.net matches the look-and-feel of the host

site.

Consumer sites, including TIBCO customers Yahoo!, Netscape, E
rade, CBS Sportsline and several others, account for nearly 50
percent of all Web traffic according to TIBCO research. They function
as content aggregators providing value-added services and have become
the premier interactive marketing channels for today's most
sophisticated Internet consumers.
"Netscape uses TIBCO technology as part of our personalized My
Netscape Web service," said Mike Homer, executive vice president and
general manager of Netscape's Netcenter division. "TIBCO is one of
only a handful of companies that can provide industrial-strength,
high-performance software that enables companies such as Netscape to
provide valuable information services to its millions of users around
the world. TIBCO.net continues in that same tradition."
"Yahoo! Finance, one of the Internet's most popular personal
finance sites, provides vital news and information integrated with
timely stock quotes. TIBCO.net gives us a high-performance, reliable
distribution model for delivering information, coupled with a tool for
integrated content from diverse sources," said Mike Riley, senior
producer of Yahoo! Finance. "TIBCO.net allows our users to access the
information they need the moment it becomes available."
Corporate extranets, a primary target market for TIBCO.net, have
become customer service and communication feedback channels, reducing
overall costs while enhancing service quality and customer
satisfaction.
Some forward-thinking enterprises have extended corporate Web
sites to include content from supply-chain partners along with direct
communications enhancing overall operational efficiencies. Specialized
corporate sites that offer financial services, such as that operated
by Scotiabank, are implementing straight-through processing across
their value chain using TIBCO technology.
"Scotiabank was an early adopter of TIBCO's industrial-strength
Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) software and services", said
Gail Smith, senior vice president of front office development at
Scotiabank. "We have been working with TIBCO for the past ten years in
our trading operations all over the globe, beginning on Wall Street
and expanding from there to Toronto, London and beyond. More recently,
TIBCO technology has helped to enable our StockLine Internet Trading
System, which is part of the Bank's evolving online services."
Greg Lindeblom, assistant general manager of Front Office
Development at Scotiabank added, "In the discount brokerage
marketplace today, our customers require comprehensive market
information relating to their own personal interests. Technology from
TIBCO has helped Scotia Discount Brokerage meet this demand on the
Internet."
Wireless telecommunications service providers are creating their
own branded content and offering informational products to augment
their bandwidth or messaging services. Information such as stock price
alerts, voicemail, and customer billing information can be accessed by
wireless devices in real-time.
"How does PageNet give customers the information services they
want, when they want them? That's easy. We are building the
information delivery channel of the future using TIBCO's Enterprise
Application Integration (EAI) software and their TIBCO.net solution,"
said John P. Frazee, Jr., chairman, president and chief executive
officer, PageNet.
"Our new Information Services Hub will deliver customized content
to wireless subscribers by aggregating, filtering, and delivering
content from multiple sources to pagers or other mobile devices. In
addition, we are using TIBCO software to integrate our billing and
customer service applications so we can provide our business customers
with unsurpassed access to information, anytime, anywhere. And what's
good for our customers' business, is good for our business."
PageNet, the world's largest wireless messaging and information
company, is using TIBCO's enterprise application integration solutions
combined with TIBCO.net to create an Information Services Hub that
will enable the delivery of an unparalleled range of customized
content to PageNet subscribers.
Acting as a "content engine," the Information Services Hub will
receive and aggregate information flowing in from a variety of
sources, such as PageNet's branded content partners, the Internet and
corporate Intranets. The Hub will then filter, process, format and
deliver this information to PageNet subscribers, customized to their
individual information needs and the specific capabilities of their
pager or other mobile device.
In addition, PageNet has integrated their billing and service
applications into the hub so that customers can access account
information wirelessly.

     Current TIBCO.net customers include:

-- PageNet -- Real-time news and business events via wireless
     distribution
-- Yahoo.com -- Delayed stock quotes over the Web
-- PointCast.com -- Content aggregation services at their data
     center.
-- 3Com -- Corporate extranet content filtering integration with
     internal resources.
-- Scotiabank StockLine -- Internet trading system.

Among the consumer content available today through TIBCO.net are
popular news and information services including Reuters and S&P
Comstock stock quotes, Reuters News, Business Wire and PRNewsWire.
Planned additional content includes other financial sources,
travel services, sports channels, health resources, weather sources,
and classified sources.

Not Just for the Fortune 500

Unique to TIBCO.net is its OneWire Service for both subscribers
who want just one or a few services, but also for independent Web site
publishers who want their content "pushed" in real-time to their
partners thus eliminating content management issues. Other offerings
include alert services for event-driven messaging.
TIBCO.net also includes all of the facilities for handling hub
monitoring and management, including database and file replication
across multiple locations, either through TIBCO's data center or at
the customer's site. The company offers dozens of hub services from
reporting and processing to auditing and accounting, and
personalization and registration management.
