TI COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF DOT WIRELESS.Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : TXN TXN Texas Instruments (stock symbol) TXN Transaction (databases) TXN Tunxi, China (Airport Code) TXN Tarxien (postal locality, Malta) ) has completed its previously announced acquisition of Dot Wireless, Inc., in a stock-for-stock transaction that will expand TI's expertise in DSP-based solutions for third-generation (3G) wireless handsets and mobile computing devices. This acquisition enables TI to expand its offering of leading programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) and analog-enabled wireless solutions across all 2.5G and 3G wireless standards and markets, including IS-2000. Dot Wireless has an advanced 3G-system architecture and protocol software for both voice and high-speed data applications. Dot Wireless also is a leader in 3G CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. technology, both IS-2000 and Wideband-CDMA (W-CDMA See WCDMA. ), and will support TI's development of technologies for both standards. W-CDMA is designed to support the evolution from today's GSM, TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). and PDC (1) (Primary Domain Controller) A Windows NT/2000 service that manages security for its local domain. Every domain has one PDC, which contains a database of usernames, passwords and permissions. systems -- standards widely used in Europe, Asia, the United States and Japan. IS-2000 is designed to support the evolution from today's IS-95 systems. As part of this acquisition, TI is establishing a wireless technology center in San Diego where Dot Wireless is based.
