He has been in scouting since joining the Tiger Cub Scouts, earning all the Cub Scout ranks and his arrow of light before becoming a Boy Scout in 2000.

He earned 27 merit badges, attended three years summer camp, completed the COPE course, climbed the South Sister and earned the 50-miler award twice. He attended National Jamboree in 2001 and plans to attend in 2005. He is a member of Order of the Arrow The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
