Churchill High dancer is arts student of the month

Ashley Villanueva, daughter of Al and Belinda Villanueva of Eugene, has been named the Performing Arts Student of the Month for April by the Support Hultcenter Operations.

Villanueva is a senior at Churchill High School, where she was the featured dancer in her school's performance of ``Pre-Occupied'' and lead dancer and choreographer in Actors Cabaret's production of ``Dancing Cheek to Cheek.''

SHO makes the monthly award to recognize and encourage participation in music, drama and dance in Lane County high schools.

Thurston sophomore named an Eagle Scout

David Bantz, a member of Troop No. 8 in Springfield, was honored at an Eagle Court of Honor on April 10 at McKenzie Valley Presbyterian Church. Eagle Scout is the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts.

He earned 27 merit badges and received the Arrow of Light award.

His service project, done for Camp Harlow, involved restoring a miniature golf course. The project required more than 98 hours and 10 helpers.

Kiwanis Club to honor

seven young leaders

The Emerald Empire Kiwanis Club of Eugene will recognize outstanding youth from seven local high schools at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Red Lion Inn, 205 Coburg Road in Eugene.

Kelly Stephenson of Sheldon, Aaron Waechter of South Eugene, Jenna Richeson of Churchill, Gina Kirby of Marist, Kayley Richmond of North Eugene, Jessica Watson of Willamette and Rio Minton of Springfield high schools will receive an award certificate and $500. The students are selected for their leadership work in the school and the community.
