THREE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ELECTED FOR MAALOX MOMENT(TM) AWARDS

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 2 ~PRNewswire~ -- As the dust from the 1992 presidential election begins to settle, it becomes clear that all three candidates, Bill Clinton, George Bush and Ross Perot, are winners -- Maalox Moment(TM) Award winners.
This year, the candidates motivated more Americans to register and vote than had done so in any election since 1976. Instead of simply relying on television ads and campaign propaganda, all three candidates took their messages directly to the people through live talk shows, "grassroots" level tours, and unique debates. They fought hard to defend their policies and beliefs. And the American people benefited from the process.
"The 1992 presidential election was a challenging and exciting process," said James Barickman, category development director, Maalox(R), for Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals Inc. "The candidates were faced with several complex issues, and their efforts to address these issues resulted in a number of Maalox Moments as the challenges and surprises of the campaign trail played havoc with their stomachs. The world was watching, and all three candidates can be proud of their efforts on behalf of America."
Bush receives the Maalox Moment Award for maintaining a rigorous campaign schedule while continuing to manage his duties as America's chief executive. For months, he was responsible for two "full-time" jobs, and he was able to devote equal energy and dedication to both.
Perot deserves the honor because he was able to win a bigger share of the popular vote than any other independent candidate in this century, except for Teddy Roosevelt in the election of 1912. He made people examine the issues and was a major motivating factor to draw Americans to the voting booth.
As the new president-elect, Clinton is a natural choice for the award. He persevered through the primaries and delivered a message of hope and change to the American people. Now, with their support, he must courageously begin to successfully manage the nation on a new course.
As part of the award, the 1992 presidential candidates each will receive a supply of Extra Strength Maalox Plus tablets to help manage the acid indigestion or heartburn that may accompany stressful and challenging situations in the future. In addition, the three men will receive "Maalox Moment Survival Kits" to help prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead.
The Maalox Moment Award is presented on a regular basis to individuals or groups who successfully manage a stressful situation that has occurred in any aspect of their daily lives. Past recipients include Philadelphia school superintendent Dr. Constance Clayton, Dodgers' pitcher Kevin Gross, U.S. Olympic swimmer Pablo Morales, comedian Jay Leno, Olympic figure skater Paul Wylie, and Barbara Bush.
