THOUSAND OAKS ENJOYS NEW SHELTER; CLUBHOUSE PROVIDES MAJORS ATMOSPHERE.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Daily News Staff Writer

Behind home plate at the Thousand Oaks High School Thousand Oaks High School is a high school established in 1962 and located in Thousand Oaks, California. It is a California Distinguished School, and offers curriculum at all levels for Thousand Oaks students. The mascot is the lancer.  baseball field stands a large green building. Inside is what coach Bill Sizemore Bill Sizemore (born June 2, 1951 in Aberdeen, Washington) is a political activist in Clackamas, Oregon, United States.

Sizemore has never held elected office, but has nonetheless been a major political figure in Oregon since the 1990s.

The building, which has long held the nickname ``Green Monster'' because of its size and color, used to be the storage shed. Sizemore turned it into a major-league style clubhouse, complete with lockers, stools, hangars, equipment space and name plates like the pros have.

``It's about as close as we can get to the bigs (major leagues) right now,'' pitcher/first baseman Tracy Goebel said. ``All the guys have a place to put their gear instead of taking it to school every day.''

Sizemore has spent many years scouting for various teams and has seen the advantages of having a clubhouse.

``What I try to do is create as much of a pro-style atmosphere as possible,'' Sizemore said. ``The kids love it. It's a good atmosphere to create a lot of camaraderie.''

In the years B.C. (before clubhouse), Sizemore noticed the players changed clothes in their cars, played the game and went home, never stopping to spend time together. Sizemore said during the American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. So he set about making one. All of the tools were moved elsewhere, and professionals came in knock out a wall and clean out the place.

``When it opened (in early June), they could hardly wait to get in,'' he said. ``It's something I always wanted to do. I always thought it would be an added plus.''

Westlake coach Chuck Berrington thinks so, also. He said he's watching Sizemore carefully in hopes of coverting Westlake's shed into a similar clubhouse.

``T.O. has more room,'' Berrington said. ``Westlake's (shed) is so confined. I want to expand it just like he did.''

The project is not finished, Sizemore said. Still to be built is an outdoor enclosed area just off the clubhouse entrance. There will be picnic tables A picnic table (or sometimes a picnic bench) is a modified table with benches expressly for the purpose of eating a meal outdoors (picnicking). In the past, picnic tables were typically made of wood, but modern tables can be made out of anything from recycled plastic to  and more area to walk around privately.
