THOUSAND OAKS CREWS FIND NEW SEWAGE LEAK.

Byline: Kevin F. Sherry Daily News Staff Writer

City workers have discovered another damaged sewer pipe, this one leaking raw sewage into a sinkhole sinkhole

Depression formed as underlying limestone bedrock is dissolved by groundwater. Sinkholes vary greatly in area and depth and may be very large.
in Wildwood Wildwood, city (1990 pop. 4,484), Cape May co., SE N.J., on an island off Cape May; settled 1882, inc. as a city 1911. It has large commercial fisheries and is a popular summer seaside resort with many vintage motels and other buildings from the 1940s–60s.  Park.

The new sinkhole problem surfaced just as work crews finished repairs to two other storm-related calamities, the Moorpark Road sinkhole and the washed-away sewage pipeline, said Public Works public works

The Wildwood Park pipeline is not under pressure, and all of the leakage is contained within the hole, Nelson said. Some sewage might escape into the sinkhole, but it flows right back into the pipeline.

The sinkhole is about 10 feet deep and is about 300 yards below Paradise Falls Paradise Falls is a weekly soap opera shown nationally on the Showcase channel in Canada, starting in 2001. It is set in a summer cottage community in Northern Ontario.

, Nelson said.

The sinkhole might have collapsed the pipe, which is 12 to 15 feet underground, he said. But a determination of what caused the problem and how to fix it won't be made until crews can get to the buried pipeline.

``We'll just have to dig it up and see what it is,'' Nelson said.

The new hole is unrelated to the Feb. 3 pipeline washout washout

that sent up to 8 million gallons of raw sewage a day flowing into the Arroyo Conejo and to the Pacific Ocean. That pipeline was replaced and has been holding since Friday.

Nelson said the Wildwood Park sinkhole was reported a few days ago, but city contractors were busy with the other storm-related projects. The sewage was not spotted in the hole until late Monday.

The new pipeline has a much smaller capacity and is not leaking sewage into the park or any waterway. Signs have been posted to warn people away from the site.

Unlike the first sewer-pipe break, work crews will have an easy approach to this spill because it is beside a park access road, Nelson said.

Meanwhile, work on the Moorpark Road sinkhole, which was about 25 feet deep, should be completed sometime today. Crews performed curb and gutter work Tuesday and should finish paving and reopen the road today.

The city faces sanctions from the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Regional Water Quality Control Board for the Feb. 3 spill. The amount of fines will be based in a large part on whether the incident could have been prevented.
