THOUSAND OAKS: BRIEFLY : 4 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN VEHICLE BREAK-IN.


NEWBURY PARK - Two adults and two juveniles from Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  were arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of breaking into a pickup truck in the 600 block of Gerst Drive in Newbury Park.

, 18, were booked into the Ventura County Sheriff's Department's East Valley station and two male juveniles were released to the custody of their parents, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies were called to the scene by witnesses who said they saw two of the suspects standing by a white pickup truck. The suspects reportedly ran and were apprehended after a brief chase, with two other suspects found in a car parked nearby.

Simi seeks member to join foundation

SIMI VALLEY - The city is seeking a new member for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation board of directors.

The foundation is a nonprofit corporation nonprofit corporation n. an organization incorporated under state laws and approved by both the state's Secretary of State and its taxing authority as operating for educational, charitable, social, religious, civic or humanitarian purposes.  that raises money for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. The group is trying to raise $2 million by 2000, the deadline for the arts center to become self-sufficient.

Simi schools plan textbook giveaway

SIMI VALLEY - The Simi Valley Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  is sponsoring a giveaway of used books and obsolete textbooks.

The annual event is scheduled from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 12 at 875 Cochran St., the district office warehouse.

The selection of books includes fiction, nonfiction, and subject textbooks, such as math, English and science.
