THOSE LIPS THOSE EYES MAKEUP GOES GLAMOROUS SENSOUS, DRAMATIC.

Byline: Michelle J. Mills Staff Writer

In the 1940s, glamour was in. Makeup was dramatic, with bright red lips and big eyes; soft hair was long and wavy, and it framed the face. Now, with the release of ``Pearl Harbor Pearl Harbor, land-locked harbor, on the southern coast of Oahu island, Hawaii, W of Honolulu; one of the largest and best natural harbors in the E Pacific Ocean. In the vicinity are many U.S. military installations, including the chief U.S. ,'' the look is hot again. The film's makeup department head, Julie Hewett, agreed to share her tips and techniques so we can all capture the classic look of 1941.

FACE

When it comes to your face, think Hawaii, think perpetual summer sun. No need to go sunbathing for that lightly tanned bronzed look. For a nice all-over glow, Hewett suggests exfoliating your face before you bathe, then wait a half-hour before applying a self-tanning lotion. Just before leaving the house, lightly dust your face, neck, shoulders and upper chest with bronze powder a metallic powder, used with size or in combination with painting, to give the appearance of bronze, gold, or other metal, to any surface.

You can skip the self-tanner if you get foundation a shade darker than what you usually use, and blend it with moisturizer mois·tur·iz·er

If you have oily skin, you may wish to powder the rest of your face, too - just keep it light.

CHEEKS

The best blush gives you a dew-fresh face. Hewett recommends creme blushes in pink or red hues that will give you a ``just sunbathed'' look. Avoid brown blush, which is too heavy. Use your fingertips "Fingertips" is a 1963 number-one hit single recorded live by "Little" Stevie Wonder for Motown's Tamla label. Don't go too low or you'll get a mannequin effect.

EYES

The eyes have it, or they should have creme shadows and lots of mascara, says Hewett. Choose muted colors or hues in bronzy tones. Fair of face? Try neutral colors on lids and bright tints in the crease of the eye. No color above that. Add a fine dark line of eye liner Eye liner is a cosmetic used to define the eyes.  along the upper lid and a barely there smudge under the lashes of your lower lid. Keep it simple and let your lashes lead the way.

EYEBROWS

Eyebrows frame the eyes. Thicker, more natural brows are back, but they should be styled with a nice clean arch. To achieve great brows, Hewett recommends forgoing the pencil to fill in the gaps and using eye shadow instead. To do this, brush your brows up and then use the brush to shape them. Next, using eye shadow a shade lighter than your brows, fill in the gaps with a soft touch. You can keep unruly brows in place with clear eyebrow mascara if needed.

LIPS

A kiss may be just a kiss, but you must remember - red says it all when it comes to lips. For the right shade, Hewett suggests examining the underside of your forearm to determine your skin tone. Women with pink undertones should use a bluer red, olive-skinned women look best in shades with yellow undertones and women with golden undertones should reach for brownish reds. Darker and red-toned types shine in a burgundy red.

your normal red. Use a neutral-colored liner to even out your lips. Hewett advises sketching the outline of the lips rather than drawing it in completely. Apply your lipstick on top of the line, seal with a pinch of powder and top off with gloss.

NAILS

A good manicure is always in style, but for the most classic look, Hewett says to go red or try her favorite, a French manicure French manicures, an idea originated in Paris, are characterized by a natural pink base nail with white tips. It resembles a natural nail. The tips of the nail are painted white while the rest of the nail is polished in a pink or a suitable nude shade. .

HAIR

Today's hot hair is choppy with blunt cuts that fall to the shoulders. For the 1941 look, long or short, make some waves so that your hair is soft around your face.

MEN

Men can look ruggedly handsome by using a self-tanner or bronzer. Hair should be classic as well, longer on top and short in the back. Hewett predicts the trend will lead to less sideburns side·burns
