THORN APPLE VALLEY ANNOUNCES INCREASED QUARTERLY DIVIDEND

 SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Thorn Apple Valley, Inc. (NASDAQ: TAVI) today announced that it has declared a quarterly dividend on its common stock of $0.07 per share, payable on Nov. 26, 1993, to holders of record of common stock at the close of business on Nov. 12, 1993. The dividend declared represents a 1 cent per-share increase over the quarterly dividend rate in effect in the company's prior fiscal quarter.
 The company recently reported earnings for the first quarter of fiscal 1994 (the 16 weeks ended Sept. 17, 1993) of $3.9 million ($0.66 per share) as compared to $5.2 million ($0.90) per share) for the first quarter of the prior fiscal year (per-share amounts have been restated to reflect a 3-for-2 stock split effected in the form of a dividend in December 1992).
 Thorn Apple Valley is a major producer of premium consumer packaged meat and poultry products and a leading slaughterer of hogs, whose products are sold to wholesalers, supermarkets and food service operators. The common stock of the company is traded on the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System over-the- counter market under the symbol TAVI.
