THOR ANNOUNCES ANOTHER RECORD QUARTER; INCOME SURGES 42 PERCENT

JACKSON CENTER, Ohio, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Thor Industries, Inc. (NYSE: THO) announced today record sales and record net income for the first quarter ended Oct. 31, 1993.
Sales for the quarter were $128,202,000, up 23 percent from $103,995,000 last year. Income before change in accounting principle was $5,350,000 or 60 cents per share, up 42 percent from $3,773,000 or 43 cents per share last year. Net income was $5,350,000, up 23 percent from $4,334,000 last year. Last year's net income included a one-time gain of $561,000 or 6 cents per share for the cumulative effect of a change in accounting principle.
Recreational vehicle sales in the quarter were $108.4 million, up 17 percent from $92.4 million last year. Small and mid-size bus sales were $19.8 million, up 71 percent from $11.6 million last year.
Wade F.B. Thompson, Thor chairman, noted, "This impressive result is easily the highest for any quarter in the company's history and well in excess of analysts' estimates. It is especially noteworthy, since last year's results included about $10 million in sales of travel trailers for victims of Hurricane Andrew. Both recreational vehicles and buses recorded substantial improvements, with particular strength in the company's Airstream and Dutchmen operations. Bus net income showed a strong turnaround from last year's break-even level."
Thor is the second largest manufacturer of recreational vehicles in North America and the largest builder of small and mid-size buses.
