THOMAS E. PARDUN ELECTED TO WESTERN DIGITAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS; PRESIDENT & CEO, U S WEST MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS GROUP

 IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Western Digital Corp. (NYSE: WDC) today announced the election of Thomas E. Pardun, 49, to its board of directors. Pardun is president and chief executive officer of U S WEST Multimedia Communications Group, a unit of U S WEST Inc., based in Denver.
 The election of Pardun brings Western Digital's board of directors to nine, including eight outside directors.
 Charles A. Haggerty, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Western Digital, stated, "Tom Pardun has been successful in leading organizations in the computing, telecommunications, and multimedia industries, and he is actively involved in managing the operations of a multibillion dollar enterprise. He is an important addition to the Western Digital board of directors."
 As president and chief executive officer of U S WEST Multimedia Communications Group, Pardun is responsible for overseeing a multimedia joint alliance of U S WEST and Time Warner's Entertainment unit. The two companies are jointly managing a $5 billion upgrade of Time Warner's Cable Systems over the next five years that will enable the systems to deliver two-way, multimedia services including video, data, and voice services. Pardun also sits on the Management Committee governing the joint venture.
 Pardun joined U S WEST in 1988 after serving in executive capacities at Sprint Corp. and United Telecommunications Inc. A resident of Denver, Pardun earned a Bachelor's degree of Business Administration in economics and marketing at the University of Iowa.
