Conference events - 4 p.m. As part of the Western Jewish Studies Association Conference, keynote speaker Susannah Heschel Susannah Heschel (born 15 May 1952) holds the Eli Black Chair in Jewish Studies and serves as associate professor in the Department of Religion at Dartmouth College. She received her Ph.D. , of Dartmouth University

THURSDAY

Scandinavian folkdance - 7 p.m. Visiting Norwegian instructor Linda Gunn coordinates an hour of workshop and instruction followed by a one-hour mixer, often with live music. All ages welcome. Sons of Norway Lodge, 1836 Alder alder (ôl`dər), name for deciduous trees and shrubs of the genus Alnus of the family Betulaceae (birch family), widely distributed, especially in mountainous and moist areas of the north temperate zone and in the Andes.  St. Free. 346-4053.

FRIDAY

Learning in Retirement - 10 a.m. Steve Stone, music emeritus, and Jim Branvold join forces to present the program "Interrupted Melody," a look at those singers whose careers were cut short for a variety of reasons. Alaska/Mexico/Canada Rooms, Baker Downtown Center, 975 High St. Free. 346-0697.

Ballroom dance - 7:30 p.m. Dress up or casual; leather-soled shoes advised. No partner needed. Lessons during the first hour. Room 220, Gerlinger Hall. $5 general public, $4 students and UO faculty. 346-6025.
