THIS WEEK'S KEY GAMES.Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer No. 6 ST. FRANCIS (6-0, 1-0) at CHAMINADE (5-1, 1-0) 7:30 p.m. Player to watch: Marcus Everett, WR, Chaminade Game-breaking WR is averaging 25.2 yards a catch (30-756) and is second in the area with 10 receiving touchdowns. Key stat stat adv. With no delay. adj. Immediate. STAT Stat! Clinical medicine adverb Fast, quickly, immediately, schnell, vite Lab medicine noun : 15-5 Touchdown-to-interception ratio of Chaminade QB Chris Turner
Chris Turner (born September 15, 1958 in Sheffield, where he attended Myers Grove School) is an English football manager. , who threw two touchdowns and 13 interceptions last year as a sophomore. Why St. Francis will win: Has yet to allow more than 14 points in a game this season. A strong defense and the running of RB Blake Milton (91-632, 6 TDs) can beat most opponents. But the Golden Knights
Why Chaminade will win: The Eagles of West Hills pose a passing threat St. Francis hasn't faced to this extent. St. Francis has scored three touchdowns or fewer three times. With Turner, Everett and WR Adrian Aye-Darko (23-413, 3 TDs), the Eagles could score enough points that St. Francis won't be able to keep up. Last week: St. Francis beat Alemany of Mission Hills 28-14; Chaminade beat Harvard-Westlake of Studio City 28-27 Perspective: The winner will step forward as a playoff play·off also play-off n. Sports 1. A final game or series of games played to break a tie. 2. A series of games played to determine a championship. Noun 1. contender in the Mission League. Both teams remain question marks because of less-than-stellar competition. Outlook: St. Francis likely will take away the run. If Chaminade can complete quick-strike touchdowns as it has been, the Eagles will have a shot. SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. (4-2, 2-1) at No. 9 AGOURA (5-1, 2-1) 7 p.m. Player to watch: Andy Christopher, WR, Agoura With WR Braden Lepisto taking most of the attention from secondaries, Christopher caught two touchdowns last week. He has five scores in just 15 receptions. Key stat: 57 Points allowed by Simi Valley last week, more than the Pioneers allowed in any game when going a combined 1-19 in the previous two seasons. Why Simi Valley will win: The Pioneers' strong start to the season was tarnished last week in an embarrassing loss to Moorpark. Simi Valley, led by senior QB Scott Zeller and RB Laydell Shelton, has shown pride this season and could come out strong to make up for last week. Why Agoura will win: The Chargers have one of the area's best passing offenses and were held to fewer than 25 points only by Westlake. QB Bryan Walker is second in the area with 17 touchdown passes. Last week: Simi Valley lost to Moorpark 57-27; Agoura beat Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown. 49-14 Perspective: Agoura improved its rushing game last week, running for 149 of its 413 season-total rushing yards. This is the stat the Chargers need to work on. They can't compete with top teams such as Westlake or Moorpark while being one-dimensional. Outlook: Agoura's passing probably will be too much. But an upset here would put Simi Valley on a path to the playoffs. GRANT (4-2, 1-0) at NORTH HOLLYWOOD (3-2-1, 1-0) 7 p.m. Player to watch: Anthony Dickson, RB, Grant Has rushed for nine of his 12 touchdowns in the past two games. Key stat: 55.6 Percent of North Hollywood's offensive yards provided by RB Marlon Lucky (949 rushing, 95 receiving). Why Grant will win: Grant of Van Nuys' three losses are to teams with a combined record of 15-2-1. The team has rolled up 86 points in the past two games. Since allowing 41 points in the season-opening loss to Granada Hills, Grant has allowed an average of 18.4 points, counting the other two losses. Why North Hollywood will win: Emerged as the No. 1 challenger to defending Sunset Six League champion Grant by handing Canoga Park its second loss of the season. Has lost or tied against three teams with a combined record of 12-4-2. Last week: Grant beat Poly of Sun Valley 34-10; North Hollywood beat Canoga Park 24-18 Perspective: Dickson (979) vs. Lucky (949) is a matchup of the second- and third-best area City Section rushers, behind Verdugo Hills of Tujunga's Ryen Carew. Grant beat North Hollywood 25-22 last year. Outlook: This game could go either way. Whichever team stops the run most likely will win. On the season, Grant is allowing 170.5 yards rushing a game and North Hollywood 164.7. THIS WEEK'S OTHER TOP GAMES SYLMAR (3-2-1, 1-0) at MONROE (3-3, 1-0) 7 p.m. Player to watch: Rashaad Richards, QB, Monroe Started season playing WR but returned to QB to spark struggling offense and passed for a career-best 231 yards last week. Key stat: 199 Career victories by Sylmar coach Jeff Engilman in 24 years coaching at Sylmar, Cleveland of Reseda and Manual Arts of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . FB Antione Randolph, who also has rushed for more than 100 yards in a game this season, left last week's game early in the first quarter but is expected to return. Sylmar beat Monroe 41-15 last season. Outlook: Monroe coach Chris Richards thinks this is his team's best chance at beating Sylmar in his five years at the school. Richards doesn't even know when Monroe last defeated Sylmar, but he estimates it was more than 20 years ago. Sylmar still holds the advantage, and extra motivation to get Engilman his 200th victory. TAFT (4-2, 1-0) at EL CAMINO REAL El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:
Player to watch: Ian Bell Ian Bell can refer to:
Since committing to Washington State two weeks ago, Bell seems to have picked up his game. He has four touchdowns in the past two games. Key stat: 1,695 Rushing yards by El Camino Real, which leads area large schools. Why Taft will win: The Toreadors of Woodland Hills have won four in a row, though against mediocre me·di·o·cre adj. In the past three games, Taft has allowed a total of 21 points. QB Josh Portis leads area City Section passers with 11 touchdowns. Taft has more athletes and speed then El Camino Real of Woodland Hills would have in a decade. Why El Camino Real will win: Even during its winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins streak, run - an unbroken series of events; "had a streak of bad luck"; "Nicklaus had a run of birdies" , Taft has committed penalties and mental mistakes that could come back to haunt haunt v. haunt·ed, haunt·ing, haunts v.tr. 1. (504) and QB Daray Davis (299) - who would be the leading rusher for Taft. Last week: Taft beat Cleveland of Reseda 25-14; El Camino Real beat Chatsworth 14-7 Perspective: With a victory over North Hollywood, El Camino Real actually has beaten a better team than any Taft has defeated. This game is just the start of Taft needing to prove it learned something in the past four games. Outlook: This crosstown cross·town or cross-town adj. VALENCIA (4-2, 0-1) at BURROUGHS (4-2, 1-0) 7:30 p.m. Player to watch: Thomas Kyle, RB, Burroughs. This is the third start for the sophomore, who has established himself as one of the league's most dangerous speedsters. After scoring two touchdowns last week, he has a team-high seven touchdowns to go with an average of 14.4 yards a carry (39-562 yards). Key stat: 5 League-high number of interceptions made by Valencia senior Geoff Tisdale for a team that has made nine in six games. Why Valencia will win: After back-to-back losses, the Vikings need a victory. Valencia knows to expect a tougher time than usual against much-improved Burroughs of Burbank, but the Vikings are used to facing teams with winning records. Staying close to tough teams even in defeat has boosted Valencia's confidence. Why Burroughs will win: The Indians have great speed, led by Kyle and WR Evan Gomez. They also have a large OL anchored by Shane Strahs and Eben Britton to protect junior QB Nick Payne, who is 41 of 73 for 612 yards with five touchdowns and a league-low two interceptions. The offense has scored at least 22 points the past three games. Last week: Burroughs beat Saugus 28-0; Valencia lost to Canyon 52-45. Perspective: Valencia has won six of the past eight against the Indians. Burroughs lost 37-22 to unranked Chaminade of West Hills and a close game against always-tough St. Francis of La Canada. Valencia's losses were by a combined eight points against Southern Section top-10 teams. Outlook: Valencia will be challenged by a Burroughs defense that has three shutouts this season. But if any team can find a way to score, it's the Vikings, who have put up fewer than 23 points just once this season. ST. BERNARD St. Bernard a very large (110-200 lb) dog with massive, broad head, medium-sized ears lying close to the head, and a long tail. (5-1, 1-0) at CRESPI (5-1, 1-0) 7 p.m. Player to watch: Kevin Vollmer, QB, Crespi Has six rushing touchdowns and four passing in the past two games, with no interceptions. Key stat: 89 Points scored in the past two weeks by Crespi's improving offense, three more than the team scored in the previous four games. Why St. Bernard will win: St. Bernard of Playa playa or pan or flat or dry lake Flat-bottomed depression that is periodically covered by water. Playas occur in interior desert basins and adjacent to coasts in arid and semiarid regions. del Rey Del Rey may refer to:

Although no player has rushed for as many as 300 yards, Crespi has totaled 1,041 yards on the ground and another 598 passing. Last week: Crespi beat Don Bosco Tech of Rosemead 32-20; St. Bernard beat Cathedral of Los Angeles 20-11 Perspective: St. Bernard might be Crespi's biggest challenge in the Del Rey League, though defending champion defending champion n (SPORT) → defensor/a m/f del título defending champion n (Sport) → champion(ne) en titre Serra of Gardena could prove to be the biggest obstacle. Outlook: This is where Crespi will find out whether that difficult nonleague schedule better prepared the team for league. A victory will put Crespi well on its way to a league title. HIGHLAND (2-3-1, 1-0) at No. 10 ANTELOPE VALLEY This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming. The Antelope Valley (4-2, 0-1) 7 p.m. Player to watch: James Florence, QB, Highland Florence has the highest quarterback rating (145.56) in the Golden League and has shown playmaking ability as a runner. Antelope Valley will have to watch for him running out of the backfield. Key stat: 1 Teams Antelope Valley has played this year that have a record above .500. Why Highland will win: The Bulldogs of Palmdale have played a tough schedule, which should help them adjust to Antelope Valley of Lancaster's intensity. The running game has been solid (966 yards, 5 yards per carry), and Florence's passing keeps defenses honest. Why Antelope Valley will win: The Antelopes don't often lose two games in a row. Even with the loss to Palmdale, the Antelope Valley defense is allowing seven points a game. Last week: Highland defeated Quartz Hill 28-6; Antelope Valley lost to Palmdale 17-14 Perspective: Antelope Valley rolled over Highland 35-6 last season after scoring 20 points in the first nine minutes. Highland limited Antelope Valley QB Johnny Walker to 39 yards rushing, but TB Kreig Peters and FB Sean Wallace combined for 139 yards on 13 carries. Outlook: In years past Highland was known for its defense, but this season the Bulldogs have allowed more points (142) than they've scored (125). Highland had a much better showing last week in holding Quartz Hill to six points on a late touchdown but will have to do better against Antelope Valley's potent running game (1,188 yards, 13 TDs). If Highland can stop the ground game, it has a shot. If not, look for A.V. to roll again. LITTLEROCK (1-5, 0-1) at No. 5 PALMDALE (5-1, 1-0) 7 p.m. Player to watch: Rodney Trimm, QB, Palmdale He showed potential last week against Antelope Valley but lacked consistency and had trouble getting the ball downfield down·field adv. & adj. Sports To, into, or in the defensive team's end of the field. Adj. 1. downfield - toward or in the defending team's end of the playing field; "he threw to a downfield receiver" to his top WRs Justin Shaw and T.J. McKay. Trimm will need to improve on that this week, or defenses will begin keying on RB Adrian Jenkins. Key stat: 0 Passes caught last week by 6-foot-2 Palmdale WRs Shaw and McKay last against Antelope Valley. Why Littlerock will win: Palmdale could have a letdown letdown 1. the sudden flush of milk flow that occurs when the calf begins to suck or when milking commences in a properly prepared cow. Depends for its occurrence on the release of oxytocin from the pituitary gland in response to massage of the teats and udder. after the emotional victory over Antelope Valley of Lancaster. Littlerock showed it was capable of upsets when it beat Harvard-Westlake of Studio City 28-7 in Week 5. Why Palmdale will win: The Falcons have scored 178 points and Littlerock has allowed 192 points, so this game could get ugly if Palmdale's offense is clicking. Last week: Palmdale defeated Antelope Valley 17-14; Littlerock lost to Lancaster 28-7. Perspective: Palmdale won 46-7 last season behind Jacob McCravey's five touchdown passes, three of which went to Shaw in the third quarter. Littlerock had no yards passing in the game. Outlook: This game always is an emotional one because of the proximity of the two schools, so expect Littlerock to play with passion. Palmdale's passing attack has been inconsistent. The Falcons have 48 completions, which projects to 80 in the 10-game regular season. Last year, McCravey completed 142 passes. An upset would be unlikely, but Palmdale must get its passing game squared away.
