THIS WEEK; EAGLES READY FOR REMATCH WITH BULLDOGS LANCASTER HAS MOMENTUM.

Byline: Julio Cortez Staff Writer

The Lancaster High softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  team finished the first week of Golden League play with two wins, giving the Eagles some momentum heading into today's showdown at Highland.

The game, which starts at 3:15 p.m., gives Lancaster a chance to redeem itself after the last time the teams met.

``We played them in the High Desert Classic two weeks ago,'' Lancaster coach Kara Kara (kär`ə), river, c.140 mi (230 km) long, NE European and NW Siberian Russia. It flows N from the N Urals into the Kara Sea, forming part of the traditional border between European and Asian Russia. It is navigable in its lower course.  Johnson said. ``They really hit the ball well and they beat us 10-0. I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

if this game will be for revenge or just so that we don't look as bad. We need to hit better because we only had two hits in that game.''

The Eagles, who defeated Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

Lancaster's success is impressive because it has just three seniors - Candy Johnson, Hillary Degnan and Jensen.

The Eagles also carry two freshman catchers, Braidee Wible and Sarah Ruben.

Highland also won twice last week. The Bulldogs, tied for first with Lancaster and Quartz Hill, outscored Palmdale and Littlerock 19-1. Natalie Rawson had a home run in each of the two games. The defense was led by Rawson's sister, Nicole, who allowed just five hits in the two games, boosting her record to 7-5.

Another golfer to watch is Palmdale's Josh Street. He had a 6-over-par 78 and finished tied for third with Cohen last week.

--Perfect so far: The Quartz Hill tennis team is off to a 5-0 league start and heading for its 10th consecutive league title.

The Rebels (13-0, 5-0) are coming off a 11-7 victory over second-place Lancaster. No. 1 singles Jeff Kim and No. 2 Luv Singh both swept their matches and improved to 15-0 in Golden League play. Kim, a senior, is 37-1, and Singh, a junior, is 29-1. The No. 3 singles, sophomore John Queza, won two of his three matches and is now 13-2 in league.

``Lancaster is probably the best team we have faced,'' Quartz Hill coach Bill Lenaway said. ``We play Antelope Valley on Friday. It's probably a bigger match to (AV) than it is for us. They have to watch how many losses they have as far as the playoff play·off also play-off
