THIS WEEK: WINTER SPORTS TEAMS HEAD INTO STRETCH DRIVE : TWO WEEKS LEFT IN REGULAR SEASON.

With two weeks left in the regular season, the high school winter sports winter sports: see bobsledding; curling; hockey, ice; ice dancing; ice skating; skiing; snowshoes; tobogganing.  teams are fighting for not only Foothill League titles, but for postseason berths as well.

The Hart High girls' basketball team can move closer to capturing a league championship tonight at Canyon at 7 p.m. The Indians INDIANS. The aborigines of this country are so called.

In other girls' games tonight at 7, Burroughs is at Valencia and Saugus at Burbank.

A four-team race: In boys' soccer, Valencia took over first place Friday with a 2-1 win over Hart, and the Vikings travel to Burroughs for a 4:45 p.m. match today. Hart, which fell into second, hosts Canyon, the defending league champs, at 3:15 p.m. Saugus, sitting in third, hosts Burbank at 3:15 p.m.

Valencia, Canyon and Hart are battling for the top spot in girls' soccer.

Valencia, which beat Hart 3-1 Friday, hosts today Burroughs 3:15 p.m. Hart, the five-time defending league champions, is at Canyon at 4:45 p.m.

Other sports: COC's baseball team starts the season Friday at the Harbor College Tournament, which concludes Sunday Sunday: see Sabbath; week. .

The COC See chip on chip.  men's golf team also starts play Friday, taking on Long Beach at Recreation Park at 11 a.m.
