Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Playoffs begin in all winter high school sports this week, and the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
is well-represented in girls' and boys' basketball, girls' and boys' soccer and wrestling.

Seventeen basketball teams (nine boys, eight girls) have qualified for postseason berths. Mojave (Division IV No. 3) and Antelope Valley Christian (Division V No. 2) are both seeded in separate boys' brackets. Paraclete is seeded No. 3 in the girls Division IV bracket.

Alpha League champion Paraclete meets cross-town rival Rosamond - the schools were former league mates in the High Desert League until this season - in an interesting girls' matchup Saturday at Paraclete.

``Rosamond won't have to make much of a road trip,'' said Paraclete coach Susan Hervey, who said she has not scouted Rosamond this year but expects to see man-to-man defense Man to man defense is a type of defensive tactic used in basketball and Football (Soccer) in which each player is assigned to defend and follow the movements of a single player on offense. Quartz Hill, which won 10 straight league games for its third Golden League girls' soccer championship, is the region's hottest team entering the playoffs. The Division I Rebels (15-3) on Friday host the Warren-Millikan wild-card winner.

Senior Julie Gold, who scored four goals in a 14-1 regular-season finale win over Littlerock, leads the team with 21 goals, 12 over the last six games.

``We kind of just storm the net,'' Gold said. ``We won two playoff last year and we want to go further this year. We're going to have to step up our game and play hard like we know how to play.''

In wrestling, the Division IV individual championships at Rancho Cucamonga Rancho Cucamonga (răn`chō k'kəmäng`gə), city (1990 pop. 101,409), San Bernardino co., S Calif.  is the qualifying round for the Masters.
