THIRD HIGH-GRADE HOLE CONFIRMS MAJOR NEW OREBODY AT AGNICO-EAGLE'S LARONDE MINE

TORONTO, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- A third high-grade hole -- 3,000 feet from the main shaft of the LaRonde Mine near Val d'Or, Quebec -- is yet more confirmation that a major orebody has been discovered between the existing two large deposits, announces Paul Penna, president of Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited (NASDAQ-NMS:AEAGF).
"The latest results confirm that this is the most significant discovery made on the LaRonde property since the original orebody was discovered in 1964," says Mr. Penna.
On April 1, Agnico-Eagle announced two high-grade holes among 14 widely-spaced holes drilled in separate north and south lenses from the 20th-level exploration drive at a depth of 2,800 feet.
Confirming the significance of the new Zone 20, east of the main shaft, is drill hole DDH 20-103. It was drilled below the earlier DDH 20-98 to test the continuity of its values. DDH 20-98 had intersected two separate lenses in the new zone.
The new hole intersected both north and south lenses about 200 feet below the earlier one --- 3,800 feet below surface.
The south lens averaged 0.55 ounces of gold, uncut, or 0.49 ounces, cut to 1 ounce a ton, over a true thickness (core length) of 25 feet. It also graded 2.6 ounces of silver, 0.45 percent copper and 3.72 percent zinc.
The north lens averaged 0.14 ounces of gold a ton, 0.44 ounces of silver, 0.39 percent copper and 0.04 percent zinc over a true thickness of 9.8 feet.
The new Zone 20, including both lenses, is open in all directions. The two lenses are 200 feet apart.
In the earlier results, the south lens, graded 0.43 ounces of gold, uncut, or 0.38 ounces, cut to 1 ounce, over a true thickness of 35.1 feet. It also averaged 2.8 ounces of silver, 0.63 percent copper and 4.6 percent zinc. The north lens averaged 0.38 ounces of gold, 4.6 ounces of silver, 2 percent copper and 0.5 percent zinc over a true thickness of 9.2 feet.
