THINKING PINK IN QUARTZ HILL FLAMINGO FUNDRAISER `FLOCKING' STUNT AIMS TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER.

Byline: KAREN MAESHIRO Staff Writer

QUARTZ HILL -- Westside Union School District's office was under siege Tuesday, but it was a friendly invasion of dozens of plastic flamingos.

The pink lawn ornaments dotted the grass outside the office on 50th Street West near Avenue M to raise funds for the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society,

and awareness for the society's upcoming Relay for Life Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is a fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, and is now held in many other countries. It is an overnight event designed to spread awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures, celebrate survivorship and raise money .

``It's a friendly attack for a good cause and a clever way to raise funds,'' Superintendent Regina Rossall said.

Fifty flamingos were placed at the office Sunday evening by the staff at Del Sur School. An accompanying sign said, ``You've been flocked'' and demanded a donation of $50 for the birds' removal and an extra $15 for ``insurance'' that they never return.

Another 50 flamingos were installed Monday night. District office, educational services and maintenance staff decorated the birds with clothes, hats and jewelry jewelry, personal adornments worn for ornament or utility, to show rank or wealth, or to follow superstitious custom or fashion.

The most universal forms of jewelry are the necklace, bracelet, ring, pin, and earring.
.

``Our district theme is `Think Pink' for breast cancer awareness,'' Del Sur Principal Melinda Wallace said. ``We have had many employees in our district that have been affected by breast cancer.''

Wallace warned that the birds have the ability to migrate and that other district schools and offices should beware.

``Our flocking crew will be out and about from now until Sept. 30 when the Relay For Life begins,'' Wallace said.

Wallace also said her flocking crew is willing to flock anyone for a donation to the American Cancer Society.
