SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Retro band Papa Doo Run Run will transform Central Park into a surfin' safari Sunday, performing California music hits of the Beach Boys and other surf groups of the '60s, along with classic rock hits of the '60s and '70s.

The group started out as a garage band in 1965, and over the years some of the players have changed. But the band's style and harmony has stayed the same as the group served a 15-year stint as Disneyland's house band and performed at two Olympic Games Olympic games, premier athletic meeting of ancient Greece, and, in modern times, series of international sports contests. Current members are Don Zirilli, keyboard and vocals; Bo Fox, drums; Jim Rush, bass and vocals; Randell Kirsch Randell Kirsch is an American singer/songwriter and musician. Kirsch received his first guitar lesson in 1962 and has since worked with Jan and Dean, Roger McGuinn, Skunk Baxter, Jeff Larson, Jeffrey Foskett, Stephen Bishop, The Cowsills, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Papa Doo Run Run and , guitar and vocals; and Bobby Gothar, guitar and vocals. Zirilli and Rush are original members, and if they look familiar, it's probably because the band performed at nearly every high school and college in California during their humble beginnings Humble Beginnings was an American pop punk band from New Jersey. While never gaining large-scale success, many of the band's members went on to mainstream success with other outfits. .

Concert-goers are invited to sing along to well-known hits of the Beach Boys such as ``Barbara Ann'' and ``Be True to Your School,'' rock classics like ``Born to be Wild'' and the band's original hits.

``They do a great job of re-creating the Beach Boys sounds. They have the harmonies and musical styling down, so it should be a great day in the park,'' said Phil Lantis, concert coordinator.

``Papa'' has released three albums and earned two gold records and a Grammy nomination over the years. The group's latest album, ``It's Alive,'' is a live rendition ren·di·tion

The performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, and is part of the city of Santa Clarita's Concert in the Parks series.
