THEY HOPE 'HUGO' DRAMA STUDENTS READY FOR 'MISERABLES'.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Canyon High School's advanced drama students will perform the Broadway musical ``Les Miserables,'' offering a glimpse of the days of the French Revolution.

The show will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13-14 in the Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:
  • Hart High School — Newhall, California
  • Hart High School — Hart, Michigan
  • Hart County High School — Munfordville, Kentucky
  • Hart County High School — Hartwell, Georgia
 auditorium in Newhall.

``Les Miserables,'' written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michael Schonberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, will star Canyon senior Sam Hyde as Jean Valjean.

Valjean is a prisoner who, upon his release, works hard to redeem his life and takes pity upon the masses who endure poverty while the upper class in France flourishes in the early 1800s.

Valjean, always under the watchful eye of Constable Javert, played by Alan Cutler, helps Fantine, a prostitute played by Mary Deagon.

In failing health, Fantine urges Valjean to raise her daughter Cossette, who must first be rescued from the clutches of the drunken innkeeper An individual who, as a regular business, provides accommodations for guests in exchange for reasonable compensation.

An inn is defined as a place where lodgings are made available to the public for a charge, such as a hotel, motel, hostel, or guest house.
 Thenardier, his wife, and daughter, Eponine, played by Garrett Deagon, Becki Hasquet and Myrna Velasco, respectively. Making her debut as young Cossette is Kara Kara (kär`ə), river, c.140 mi (230 km) long, NE European and NW Siberian Russia. It flows N from the N Urals into the Kara Sea, forming part of the traditional border between European and Asian Russia. It is navigable in its lower course.  Hayes.

Valjean then moves to Paris, where he raises the girl. An older Cossette, portrayed by Desiree Kramer, is soon reunited with the now downtrodden down·trod·den

The play is directed by Marilyn Pilkey and student Emily Steelhammer with a live orchestra directed by Mary Purdy.
