Equally good are Martin Clunes as Capt. Stickles, who befriends the Ridds and lavishly avails himself of their hospitality, and Michael Kitchen as Lord Chief Justice Jeffreys, wearily droll whether ordering executions or extending extraordinary kindnesses.
