of the best Ventura County has to offer.

``You're only as good as your weakest leak, pretty much, and we have a solid bunch. The bar is set high,'' said coach Ed Kitchen, who is assisted by Mike Sheehan and Matt Ricatto. ``The best part about these guys is that they've bought into the team concept. If we were missing one person from this group, we wouldn't be where we are.''

Thousand Oaks plays Springdale, Ariz., or Milpitas, from the Bay Area, tonight at 8 in a Western Regional semifinal at American River College American River College (ARC) is a two-year community college located in the southern edge of unincorporated Foothill Farms in Sacramento County, California.

The college was opened in 1955 as American River Junior College, on the site of the old Grant Technical College.

A victory would send Thousand Oaks to Tuesday's championship game, and another win would mean a trip to the World Series in Easley, S.C.

Thousand Oaks lost the opening game of the District 13 playoffs, but it recovered quickly and has won its past 10 games.

The team was particularly impressive Friday in a 8-1 Western Regional quarterfinal victory over Hilo, Hawaii Hilo (pronounced IPA: /ˈhiːloʊ/) is a coastal city in the State of Hawaiʻ .

Clayton Edwards, also from Royal, pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts, and his former Highlanders teammate Eric Blackwell broke open a close game with a three-run home run in the third inning.

``We're having a good time and playing well,'' said Blackwell, a right fielder right fielder

Thousand Oaks clinched the Division 3 title Thursday when D.J. Smith, another Royal graduate, needed just 85 pitches in a two-hitter, striking out 12 in a 3-0 victory over Orange Crest of Riverside.

``We're having some success,'' Kitchen said. ``We just have to keep our nose in front of us. Take it one pitch at a time. We don't want to think about the big picture too much because the little one will get blurred.''

The goal is the July 30-Aug. 6 World Series, which draws teams from around the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. ``We want to win a world championship. It's not an unusual goal,'' Kitchen said. ``We feel like we're capable of it.''
