THESE REBELS HAVE A CAUSE QUARTZ HILL EYES GOLDEN LEAGUE UPSET OF HIGHLAND.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Staff Writer

PALMDALE - Entering today's 3 p.m. meet against visiting Quartz Hill High, Highland (11-5, 3-0) has won 42 Golden League wrestling matches in a row. In fact, the Bulldogs have never lost a league match since joining the conference in 1992.

With the league crown on the line, Quartz Hill can't think of a better time to break the streak than right now.

``It would make our season,'' coach Ron Coleman said. ``Someone needs to defeat them. Since we lost to Palmdale last week, beating Highland is all we have left. This is it. There's no tomorrow.''

Highland coach Mike Young admits today's match lost some luster when Quartz Hill (22-3, 2-1) dropped from first to third by losing to Palmdale Wednesday. Nevertheless, Young refuses to overlook the Rebels.

``It's still very important,'' Young said. ``Basically, we can win the title tonight because we should beat A.V. (next week). If we lose, it sets up a three-way tie. If we win, we take the championship ourselves.''
