THERMOGENESIS CORP. Sells BioArchive Stem Cell System to China

THERMOGENESIS CORP. (NASDAQ: KOOL) announced today that its BioArchive(tm) System, which harvests and cryopreserves units of placental blood stem cells used to reconstitute the bone marrow of patients with leukemia, lymphomas and other genetic blood diseases, will be installed in the Guandong Hematopoietic Stem Cell Therapy Center, Guangzhou, China.

Previously, BioArchive Systems have been installed at placental blood banks at The New York Blood Center, Duke University Medical Center and Georgetown University Medical Center under FDA's IND regulations. Additional BioArchive Systems have been sold to placental blood banks at Finnish Red Cross, University of Tokyo, Japan, Hokkaido Red Cross Ctr. Sapporo, Japan, Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan, Centro de Transfusion de Galicia, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Barcelona CB Blood Bank, Barcelona, Spain, University of Duesseldorf, Germany and Tzu-Chi Foundation, Hualien, Taiwan. The ability of placental blood to reconstitute the hematopoietic and immune systems of patients whose bone marrow has been destroyed has been demonstrated and results published in the November 26, 1998 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine article, "Outcomes among 562 recipients of placental-blood transplants from unrelated donors," by Dr. Pablo Rubinstein et al.

THERMOGENESIS' BioArchive System utilizes sterile disposable bag sets to collect, concentrate and cryoprotect the placental blood stem cells and an FDA Class II robotic device for controlled rate freezing and long-term liquid nitrogen archival of up to 3,626 stem cell donations. A final sterile bag set is used to transfuse the thawed placental blood into the patient. These processing steps comply with the protocols developed by The New York Blood Center's Placental Blood Program.

Aniche Inc. and its subsidiary Shanghai Ecom International Trading Co., Ltd., exclusive distributors of THERMOGENESIS products in China, have entered an agreement with China Dongfang Group to represent BioArchive System to the 100 major research hospitals and blood centers in China. Aniche Inc. has undertaken to register all THERMOGENESIS CORP. medical devices with the appropriate authorities in China to assist the company in its efforts to open new markets for all of its products.
