WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO) announced today that its Web Systems Group has received two orders totaling approximately $5 million for equipment that will allow major newsprint manufacturers in Canada to increase the amount of recycled fibers used in their products.
Equipment valued at nearly $3 million was ordered for the Desencrage C.M.D. Inc. mill in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, which is jointly owned by Cascades Inc., James Mclaren Industries Inc., and Donohue Inc. The order included de-inking cells, screening and cleaning equipment for removing small and lightweight contaminants, pulpers, and related machinery. Shipment is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 1992.
Equipment valued at more than $2 million was ordered for the Stone-Consolidated Inc. Belgo Division mill in Shawinigan, Quebec. This order also comprised de-inking cells, screening and cleaning equipment for removing small and lightweight contaminants, pulpers, and related machinery. Shipment is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 1992.
The orders were placed with Fiberprep, a joint venture of Thermo Electron Web Systems, its French-based E. & M. Lamort subsidiary, and Aikawa Iron Works Co. Ltd. of Japan. Fiberprep, based in Taunton, Mass., markets and manufactures stock preparation systems and equipment used in paper recycling for customers in North America.
"We are pleased to be supplying two of the leading newsprint manufacturers in Canada with equipment that will provide competitive advantages in serving customers who want -- and sometimes require -- newsprint with a high percentage of recycled material," said William A. Rainville, president of Thermo Electron Web Systems. "As environmental concerns remain strong, we anticipate continued demand for such equipment and are in a good position to provide it."
