THERE'S NO SLOWING JETHAWKS : JETHAWKS 9, MODESTO 3.Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer The JetHawks might have feared a letdown after scorching Modesto for a season-high 24 runs Saturday. But the hits and runs kept coming Sunday as the JetHawks beat Modesto 9-3 at the Hangar to complete a sweep of the four-game series. ``You're always afraid when you come back (after scoring so many runs) you're going to get shut down and lose 2-1 or 1-0,'' JetHawks manager Rick Burleson said. ``But we had some nice execution out there and took advantage of some mistakes.'' For the JetHawks, the best news was starter Jason Bond's successful re-emergence. The left-hander pitched four strong innings in his first appearance since May 2, when elbow soreness put him on the disabled list. Bond allowed just one hit, no runs, and struck out four. ``It felt like forever since I last pitched,'' Bond said. ``I've never missed this long, but today I felt pretty good. There was no soreness or pain.'' Burleson, whose plan was to limit Bond to 55 pitches (he totaled 53), was happy to have Bond back. ``For a guy who's been out for as long as he has, he looked terrific,'' Burleson said. ``He threw strikes and he had good command of his curveball. He looked like he didn't miss a beat.'' Cleanup hitter Brendan Kingman's second-inning home run (his seventh) gave the JetHawks an early 1-0 lead. The JetHawks added four runs over the next six innings before a four-run eighth-inning rally - Anton French and Francisco Santiesteban came through with two-run singles - clinched the outcome. Allan Westfall (2-2) relieved Bond and got the win. Kevin Gregg (3-4) took the loss. JetHawks notes: The JetHawks have the day off today before traveling to Bakersfield for a three-game series. Starters Julio Ayala (4-1, 3.09 ERA), Greg Wooten (0-0, .000) and Patrick Dunham (7-3, 2.16) are scheduled.
