Keep those two things in mind when listening to the new Ry Cooder Ryland "Ry" Peter Cooder (born 15 March 1947, in Los Angeles, California) is an American guitarist, singer and composer, known for his slide guitar work, his interest in the American roots music and, more recently, for his collaborations with traditional musicians from many  album, ``Chavez Ravine,'' which includes a melancholy cut called ``3rd Base, Dodger Stadium.''

``Ravine old-timers locate themselves by a memory plumb line, straight down through the playing field of Dodger Stadium, to the town underneath all that cement,'' Cooder writes in the CD's liner notes.

The lyrics, co-written by Cooder, William Garcia and Joe Kevany, tell the story of a stadium parking lot attendant who once lived where third base sits. He can look over at second base and see his grandmother's linens flapping in the breeze.
