THE WRITING ON (AND OFF) THE WALL MAGGERT'S MISERY FAMILIAR.

Byline: TOM HOFFARTH

I am not Tiger Woods Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled. . I am Jeff Maggert Jeffrey Allan Maggert (born February 20, 1964) is an American golfer.

Maggert was born in Columbia, Missouri. He attended Texas A&M University and turned professional in 1986.
.

Not the Maggert who had a two-stroke lead going into the final round of the Masters.

Try the one who smacked a fairway bunker shot off the lip that almost gave him a fat lip. Trying to top that, he drowned two balls on the same par-3 hole - from both sides of the green.

A triple-bogey 7 on the par-4 third hole dropped him from one-up to two-down on the leaderboard lead·er·board

. The quintuple-bogey 8 on the famed 12th shoved him even further back.

Who even knew ``quintuple'' was a real word?

In a morbid way, it was like enjoying Pete Weber roll a 121 in a championship match. Or Kobe Bryant clank three free throws with no time left in a tie game.

Almost even like Woods taking a double-bogey 6 on a 350-yard par-4 hole when he could've been parked on the green in one.

``It was a very strange day,'' Maggert, who managed to scamper home in fifth place, told reporters afterward.

Maybe to you it was. ...

--For violating Rule 19-2b, Maggert had to call a two-stroke penalty on himself because he couldn't get out of the way of his own Titleist.

The rule book insists on the punishment when a ball in motion is deflected or stopped, even accidentally, by the competitor, his partner or either of their caddies or equipment.

So, to make sure we got this straight, you can hit a spectator sitting along the fairway with an errant shot and there's no problem. But somehow making the ball come back and tattooing your chest, chin or forehead can't go unnoticed on the scorecard.

According to Arnold Palmer's great resource book, ``Playing By the Rules,'' Bob Murphy violated the same rule yet suffered a more embarrassing episode in the GTE GTE General Telephone & Electronics
