In the past couple of weeks, USC's athletic department was 3-0 in court cases involving lawsuits filed against it by a former academic aide, a former women's basketball coach and its former broadcast partners. In media coverage of each case, the school - in particular, Mike Garrett - took some pretty nasty hits from the accusers, yet the school fought back, including debunking de·bunk

As for the issue of equal pay for men and women at Wimbledon, look at it this way: You'd pay to watch Anna Kournikova do pretty much anything on a tennis court, but the same can't be said of Pete Sampras. . . .

Asked recently by Sacramento Bee columnist Mark Kreidler how he was coping with the struggles of a team he predicted would be appearing in the World Series this fall, Dodgers GM Kevin Malone said: ``There has been a lot of prayer time. I have been spending a lot more time reading the Scriptures, seeking God's wisdom.''
