THE SOFTWARE TOOLWORKS PROMOTES DAVID P. GRENEWETZKI TO EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND HEAD OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

 NOVATO, Calif., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Software Toolworks Inc. (NASDAQ: TWRX), a leading publisher of education, edutainment and multimedia software, announces the promotion of David P. Grenewetzki to the new post of executive vice president and head of product development. Grenewetzki had been senior vice president and chief technical officer. At the same time, Michael E. Duffy, formerly vice president for software development, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief technical officer of the company.
 In his new role, Grenewetzki is responsible for all product development undertaken by the company whether done internally or by outside parties, overseeing all R&D and product management functions. Also, his efforts will assure that the Toolworks remains at the forefront in incorporating the most up-to-date technology in its products and development processes. He also will play a key role in determining the company's position in the rapidly converging world of computers, communications and content, known as "new media."
 Grenewetzki joined the Toolworks in February 1989 as director of software development and was named senior vice president and chief technical officer in September 1990. Prior to joining the company, he was president and founder of Spectre Technologies Inc., a software developer, following more than ten years of engineering and computer experiences with Hughes Aircraft Co.
 Mike Duffy joined the Toolworks in December 1986 as director of software development and became vice president in February 1988. Prior to joining the company, he served as a consultant to various software companies, including the Toolworks. Duffy received his bachelor's degree in engineering with honors from Harvard University.
 Commenting on the promotions, Bob Lloyd, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "This reorganization of our development effort is extremely positive for the Toolworks and will provide a smoother, more streamlined product development process resulting in better products.
