THE SEARCH IS NOT OVER IN TAMMY ZYWICKI MURDER CASE; TAMMY'S PARENTS TELL OPRAH WINFREY "AUTHORITIES WASTED A LOT OF TIME" CHICAGO, Sept. 25 -- In their first national interview, Hank and Joanne Zywicki, claim "authorities wasted a lot of time" in the search for their 21-year-old daughter Tammy. Their daughter was found murdered 10 days after her reported disappearance. The interview will be seen across the country on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Monday, Sept. 28, (Check local listing). "The authorities wasted a lot of time by asking questions about boyfriends and basically by calling people just to check her personality, her credibility...," said Hank Zywicki. "We feel if nothing else..., they should also pursue the avenue of checking for a possible situation as it actually turned out for her..." "When it comes to young people like this...," he added, "you're a proven runaway until...your credibility is established, which is sad." The Zywickis appeared confident that Tammy's killer will be found. "We've gotten cards and letters from people all over the country who said, 'this could have been my daughter,'" Joanne Zywicki said. Their assurance in the capture of the murdered is prompted by the hundreds of leads that police across the nation have received pertaining to this case. The internationally syndicated Oprah Winfrey Show has, in the past, assisted in the capture of fugitives and missing persons. The Zywickis' appeared on the top-rated talk show with hopes of finding the criminal and preventing others from meeting the same fate as their daughter. The focus of the Monday show, which was taped on Sept. 21st, is car jacking and other violent crimes. Statistics prove that in major U.S. cities, car-jacking is on the rise: In New York City, six car-jackings per day occur; in Los Angeles, 10-12 per day and Detroit, a reported 300 car-jackings occurred in just one month. Dewey Stokes, the national president of the Fraternal Order of Police also appears on the show to discuss the pending crime bill that would attack the rampant crime rate in America. Stokes also offers helpful tips to viewers on how to avoid being attacked. -0- 9/25/92 /CONTACT: Colleen M. Raleigh or Robin Beaman, 312-633-1182, both of Harpo Inc./ CO: Harpo, Inc.
