IF the scooter was revived as a must-have toy, what's next?

The latest fad to hit your toy shelves is the pogo stick, that funky device that goes up and down and seems to entertain energy-charged children until they drop.

And the latest company on the scene is Razor USA LLC, the same people who brought you the metal scooter that flooded the market last fall and Christmas and has been dying a slow death ever since. Razor launched its Airgo pogo sticks a couple of weeks ago and is looking for the toy, which sells for $79.99, to become as popular as the scooter.

"It's sort of Razor's mission to take classic toys and engineer them with new technology," said Carlton Calvin, president of Razor USA, based in Cerritos.

Razor has come up with a pogo stick that has adjustable air pressure for people who weigh between 60 and 220 pounds, a built-in pump and adjustable handlebar height. It is aluminum with retractable footpads and rubber handgrips. The Airgo is manufactured by JD Corp. in Shenzhen, China.

Razor USA is just one of several companies coming out with pogo sticks. Sport Fun Inc. in Los Angeles has two kinds of sticks in stock: the Pogo-Jammer and Pogo-Roo, both are can be used by people weighing up to 160 pounds.

"We do pretty well with the pogo stick," said Marie Hidalgo, manager for the FAO Schwarz toy store in Glendale. "When we have them out, everyone -- from little kids to adults -- are bouncing around on them."
