 big bucks for a pair of briefs? The answer is simple, to please a woman.

More and more men are deciding they want sexy-looking briefs that fit great while pleasing their partner, says Perry Berne, manager of La Perla in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. .

"Traditionally, it has been women's lingerie that has been pricey and sexy," Berne says. "But today's self-evolved male realizes that if women can do it, so can they."

The cost of the new generation of men's garments ranges from $80 on up, including Gucci's silky bikini briefs with a rhinestone rhine·stone

Says one male shopper, "Why should women have all the fun?"

Another male consumer confirms the briefs are big with the ladies and can set the tone of the evening. Still others in search of comfort and style say they feel like second skin.

 & Gabbana and Zimmerle are responding to the demand for the expensive briefs with selling points like mercerized cotton, tighter weave and high finish. "It's a broad base of customers, not just the super rich. Everyone wants them now," says Gucci sales assistant Sheila Carl.

A female shopper at Gucci adds, "If you get a guy a pair of these, he'll never mistake your wicked intentions."
